I found, today, a youtube channel from PRS guitars. That's Paul Reed Smith, builder of probably the best guitars made in America.

PRS

Paul Reed Smith has an interesting history. He wanted to be a guitarist, and built a home-made guitar for a school class. Apparently, it was a VERY nice guitar. Paul says today that he discovered very quickly that as a guitarist...he made a pretty good guitar builder!

Just a little trivia. Paul built his first maple-topped guitar from the drawer front of his mother's antique dresser. He had to plug the hole for the drawer pull. Today, that #1 guitar is owned by Howard Leese. Yes, you know who Howard is. Like that driving guitar at the start of Heart's "Barracuda?" How about the soaring and cutting solo in "Magic Man?" He was Heart's lead guitarist for 20 years.

On the youtube channel above, you can see everything about how PRS guitars are built. A LOT of hand work. No wonder they start at over $1,000, and run on up to $50,000.

I don't know if you looked through the videos, but in the neck cleaning/fret leveling video, he's working on a couple of Dragons. Those are $5,000+ guitars. In fact, the ones with the dragon inlay on the body had a price at Guitar Center of over $30,000.

I've never played a US-made PRS, just the cheaper ones ($500 or so) made elsewhere and imported.

I know a lot of guitarists do NOT like the heel joint on most PRS guitars.

But there sure is a lot of hand work in these things!

Mike, I don't know a dang thing about guitars expect I love to listen to them. In fact, at this moment I am listening to some guitar music I just downloaded. They call it Flamenco, but in fact it is a single guitar playing some of the most popular music in the last fifty years. OK, maybe it is a Flamenco guitar, as I said I know nothing other than I love the music a guitar can make all by itself.

I don't know anything about the PRS guitars. I have only had my guitar for a year. It is a Little Martin. I love it. I also play my dad's some. His is a Gretsch, Chet Atkins, Nashville model. It is electric, and frets easier than any guitar I have ever handled.
