Super Heroes vs. the Westboro Baptist Church

And now for the lighter side....

I guess Fred Phelps' loonies aren't getting enough press with their usual antics anymore so they've branched out. They protested the San Diego ComicCon. Apparently you are "worshiping" the super heroes in comic books when you read them or watch movies or TV...or something.

But the geeks fired back! (I say that in the most loving way. I'm not only married to one, but even I've attended conventions like ComicCon - willingly - just much smaller) I think the geeks totally won this one!

(If you watch the video clip on that page and don't recognize it, the Jesus character is Buddy Christ from the movie Dogma.)

Former comic geek here (Legion of Super Heroes and Teen Titans). Silly me, I idolize God for creating more people like me.

I'm not sure what was funnier...Buddy Jesus, Bender wanting to kill all humans, or the sign saying that Satan's Cake is a Lie!!!!

All in all, a humorous response to a hateful group. Good on them!

Bender rules!

"Hey sexy mama...you wanna kill all humans?"...lol

Creative response to a group of hatemongering imbeciles.

The Phelps group is just loathsome - the "geeks'" response!

Phelps idiots actually protested 2 of the high school graduations near us last month. It's great to see a comic response to their insane antics.

I have no idea why they let this group get away with what they do. I guess we do live in a free country.....

My very favorite "counter-protest" sign was;

"Magnets! How the **** do they work?"

You know, this may be the only effective way to deal with these yahoos. They probably thrive on an angry response, but making them the butt of many, many, many jokes probably really irked them!

I didn't open the link here. I did look at the Westboro Baptist Church website.
I am shocked.

Everyone realizes that they are the radical freaks of "Christianity" and that is in quotes for a reason. The basic gist of the counter-protest is that the comic/movie geeks made signs as ridiculous as the Phelps crew do at all of their protests. Completely mocked them instead of telling them their ideas are horrid and not-Christian in the least.

I completely agree. The only time anyone associates these yahoos with Christianity is when they are trying to make someone angry.

The really, really, really sad part is however, that it's catching on. A 10'ish year old congregation that calls itself "Dove World Outreach Center" has come out in full support of Westboro Baptist, and is even organizing their own "activities", much like Phelps' group does.

A large part of what causes me to strongly dislike these people is that they will use any event as a platform to voice their asinine beliefs. That includes the funerals of military personnel killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, where they have no business being in the first place.
