Is the Hyperthroid under control?

My idea would be to try one of the higher fat thus higher calorie seniors or discuss if kitten or a higher protein all stage may be benificial with your vet

I actually have the OPPOSITE disorder myself, Hypothyroidism. So, I figure that the things that I'm supposed to avoid that decrease thyroid function might be something to include for your cat, in order to lower the thyroid production.

I don't know how many of these can be safely given to cats, but I'm giving you my complete list of thyroid decreasing foods/substances. You'll have to cross reference with the "do not feed" list and with a vet.

The following RAW foods contain Goitrogens, which decrease thyroid hormone production.

Cassava, Spinach, Canola, Turnips,
soybeans, Bamboo shoots, collards, Peaches,
pine nuts, Sweet potato, Kohlrabi, Rutabagas,
peanuts, Bok choy, kale, Cauliflower,
strawberry, broccoli, rapeseed, Caffeine,
millet, brussel sprouts, mustard greens,
pears, cabbage, Radishes,

These foods INCREASE thyroid function

Avocado
Saturated fat

These medications decrease thyroid function or hormone in the body.

Sulfadimethoxine
propylthiouracil
potassium perchlorate
iopanoic acid
Amiodarone
lithium
Phenobarbitone
phenytoin
carbamazepine
rifampin

I hope this helps. Don't forget to cross-check with a vet.

I would check with the vet. HT cats tend to be thin, mine is. I would look for a higher caloric food.

However, check with the vet.

my cat was at 22 pounds at one time, went down to 14 pounds over the past 2 years ago when the disease started. she has stabilized although still slightly losing a tiny amount of weight per month.

i am looking for a high caloric cat food

Hello there! I would definitely check with your vet for a guideline as to what he thinks would be best. How high of a caloric count are you looking for? For instance Nutro Natural Choice Adult is about 455/cup. I would get a list of all the foods you are considering and compare them with your vet.

Good luck!
