Hi all
I'm frazzled -it describes my house, my hair, my life - ME!

I've just spent two days reading the old threads about cats peeing where they shouldn't otta

I'm not new to message boards but new to this one - had to join so I could thank all who ever contributed to the threads.

I've got one cat (and my dh says it will be the only one) Abby the tabby. He is definately a dog person but I'm just an animal person - well I prefer those with fur!

My dear Mum was frightned of cats
and other than the one batch of kittens somebody dropped off at the house wasn't allowed to even think about them - did feed and care for those cats as long as they stayed around though - they slept in the barn. Anyway it suited my hubby just fine to promise my Mum when we married to never let me have a cat as long as she was alive.

The first Mother's Day after Mom passed I was inconsolable and just wanted to hibernate but my sisters shamed me and so we (dh and my 2 sisters and one's grandson) were all home to be with Dad. Well low and behold some nijit dropped off a kitten. I was good - I didn't go outside when my grand nephew heard it (cause I knew what would happen) they all did but she ran from them - thought it killed me i stayed in the house. Then I heard it out the back door on the deck and I broke
Don't you know, she ran from all the others but when I walked out there she came over and sat on my feet! I kinda feel my Mum sent her to me
(Hubby is still po'd at her
)

So that's how I got Abigale - the Abinator - that d@m% cat
Had her since spring of '06 and had her spayed asap.

She started peeing by the back door
and I've gleened a lot of info here - we're fixin to scrub the carpets - we've got the enzyme stuff - (remember the 3 dogs?
) and I gotta somehow figure out how to put foil there ??? (the door has to open and close and us walk) I think this started because we were gone - first I was gone (hubby here in evening and night) down home when my Dad was sick then when he passed both of us plus 3 dogs there a lot of over nights cleaning out the house.... Or she sees the cats out the back.... or the zillion other things suggested. We've had her to the vet already.

So that's my story - again so glad to have found this fountain of info

Oh, and by the way - I'm a talker (typer
) in case you didn't notice

and I luvs
smilies!

Welcome to you and Abby!
No worries hun, we LOVE talkers around here.
The more you talk, the more you'll contribute!

It certainly sounds like you and Abby were meant to be and hopefully you'll be able to clear up the pee problem.

Hi!! Welcome to TCS!!!

Sorry if this sounds stupid to ask, but I didn't get if your kitty is an inside or outside kitty?
Is she peeing only on that spot? Did the vet run a urine test for UTI?
How many litterboxes do you have? What litter do you use? What type of litter box? where is it located?
When did the peeing start? Do you remember something specific that might have brought it on? New people in the house? New furniture? New pets?

I know.... lost of questions....

Abby is an inside cat - she sealed her fate about the 4th time she jumped on my back and dug in
talk about pain! So she got declawed. ( I know horrible mean)

As far as we know - it's only by the back door.

Dr. couldn't run a test cause her bladder was empty
but she was perfectly ok otherwise.

Only have one box - it is huge - covered - has to be to keep the dogs from snacking
Use Tidy Cat. From the start she used the litter box just fine - something has gotten up her nose and we gotta get it figured out and stopped.

No new people or furnitue and unfortunately don't know exactly when it started, we were blaming Hannah, our 16 yo Lhasa who has lost 3/4 function of her kidneys. But we started wearing diapers on her at night and when we left soooo -figured it out.

She may be doing this because of the declaw. Add more litter pans and start using yesterday's mews or other pelleted litter to help her out. If she was a kitten and she was leaping on your back- that is perfectly normal behavior for such a young one- mimicing play with her litter mates-which now is you. I just had to have a barn cat undergo a partial declaw due to an accident and since the surgery (a week ago) he goes anywhere but in the litter pan. I finally just started putting straw in the pan and now he uses it. Just giving you my $0.02 based on a recent experience.

talk about pain! So she got declawed. ( I know horrible mean) Declawed cats have an increased chance of peeing outside of the box too, due to their tender paws, just so you know.... This could be a factor. It is must unfortunate she went thought this horrible procedure, but let's not go into that - too late now

As far as we know - it's only by the back door.

Dr. couldn't run a test cause her bladder was empty
but she was perfectly ok otherwise. Ok, take her to the vet again and run a urine test - she needs to be tested for UTI. That will be your first step... being healthy otherwise doesn't mean she doesn't have a urinary tract infection, which is the #1 reason for cats to pee outside of the box.

Only have one box - it is huge - covered Please remove the cover - make sure you clean often too, but covered boxes can trap odor, which cats don't like. - has to be to keep the dogs from snacking
Use Tidy Cat. Change to Cat Attract Cat Litter From the start she used the litter box just fine - something has gotten up her nose and we gotta get it figured out and stopped. Add a second box, filled with Cat attract litter, preferably by the back door, where she is peeing.

No new people or furnitue and unfortunately don't know exactly when it started, we were blaming Hannah, our 16 yo Lhasa who has lost 3/4 function of her kidneys. But we started wearing diapers on her at night and when we left soooo -figured it out.
Try these steps and see if it helps!!

Thank you all for the warm welcome and advice - I don't think the peeing has had anything to do with her being declawed - she came right home and went to it and that was 4 years ago! Not exactly sure how long this has been going on but can say months.

She did it again last night
but that may be my fault - I forgot to clean out the box last night - we was giving me a perm
