OK I don't know for sure who the guilty kitty is, but I am almost sure it is Dusty! I have been having problems with my wireless router shutting down. Well, it quit for good tonight. I was trying to see what was wrong with it, and found that the flimsy power cord was all chewed up! One of the wires was actually broken! I am going to get some electrical tape to fix it but I don't know if I can! Does someone have a spare power cord for a Netgear wireless router I can have?

I am glad that she didn't get shocked when she bit through the cord!!!! The little naughty girl! I am glad that I can connect directly with the Ethernet cord.

Don't put tape on the cord in hopes of fixing it. Once the wires are compromised, the cord becomes a huge fire hazard.

You should be able to buy another cord from Radio Shack or some place that sells electronics.

Oh trust me, we know how you feel! I don't know how many cords we've had to replace as both Nova and Imhotep are cord chewers.
We bought these plastic tube like "cord protectors" though and they work great at keeping the brats away.

Actually, if those wires are FROM the transformer to the plug on the back of the router, they are only 12 volts or so, and no fire hazard. Quite repairable.

If it's 120V, then you need to be more careful, but you can still fix them.

What does the transformer say its voltage output is? I have a number of transformers lying around.

By Transformer do you mean the little box that has the actual electrical plug in it?

If so it says:

NETGEAR
AC-DC ADAPTER
PIN: 332-10190-01
MODEL NO: MT12-Y120100-A1
INPUT: 100-120V - 60Hz 0.3A
OUTPUT: 12V = 1.0A

The = in the last line isn't exactly that.. it is a line with 3 dots underneath.

I have just replied to your PM.

But, as I said, those wires are only 12V, and not much amperage. Probably not even enough for the cats to feel, let alone be hurt by.

If they broke only one of the wires, you can splice it back together and cover it with a good electrical tape. If both wires are broken, be very careful to get them back together properly; if you reverse them, it will blow out your router.

This is a ten-minute repair job, at most!

Thanks... I have to wait until next weekend to get the tape as I get paid then. For now, I just have the modem plugged into the computer itself. At least I still have internet access. If I didn't, I would go through withdrawals! I have been without internet for a week or so before and it drove me crazy!

Surprisingly, the Shack always has what I need in the electronic department. I agree not to attempt to repair the cord. I have a WiFi router that is always getting unplugged because it is one of the cats' hangouts.
