Okay so I burned my belly on the stove at Wendy's today. Bleh... We got a new stove and it has protection on the front but not the sides to prevent you from getting burned. I got burned rather good. Not third degree, but it's blistering and swelling and part of is starting to leak!

Is the leaking normal????

I took a normal shower - PAINFUL - and then patted it dry and put neosporin on it. I'm airing it out right now, but I'm thinking sleeping tonight and the next few nights will not be fun.

Am I treating this right?

Ow

If you can afford this product, it is AMAZING. It can be used on all cuts and wounds, includiing burns (not 3rd degree) and works fast, reduces pain, and provides a protective covering. It is expensive because they're not allowed to charge less than to the medical community, but you can buy it retail. We've been working with the company for a time, and used it on ourselves, and it is truly a revolutionary wound healing prodct.

P.S. you want to buy the gel.

It's about 6 inches long and bubbled up in three different spots.. but it's not bad. I mean I've had small burns like this before, so I know it's not serious but it's painful.

tDon't use neosporin.....it will keep the heat in and the burning will continue. Keep running cold water on it. Or a cool rag that you keep refreshing. At this point it's still "cooking" so you need to stop that first. No ice, though---it can cause damage. It will leak for a while. If it looks infected you'll need to see a doctor.

Oh okay.. Will do. I imagine that would feel better too.

They're bubbling up more and leaking more. This is soooooooooooo gross.
But it's clear so I'm not really worried.

Ice cold compresses and don't laugh....but go to the store pronto, and buy "Milk of Magnesia"....yes, the stuff you take for constipation!!!!

Put some Milk of Magnesia on the burn area but don't rub it in. Put a coating on and let it dry. Re-apply several times per day. Also keep applying ice cold compresses which will stop the cooking action taking place.

The sooner you put Milk of Magnesia on it the better!!!

And don't pop the blisters!!!

Most of the blisters popped on their own. Is that bad?

It's such a bad place. I think my pants will end up popping them even if I don't pop the rest.

I'm just wondering, and I've never worked at a restaurant - but didn't your manager send you to a doctor to have this looked at? Isn't this worker's comp covered? I work in an office - what can I say, anything more than a paper cut happens at work and the firm sends you to have it checked out. I guess it's both a nice thing, and a way to limit later liability if need be.

Hope you feel better - and that Wendy's corporate is notified so they or the manufacturer can work on the stoves to prevent further staff injuries.

The leaking blisters are normal. If you find that your pants are irritating the burns, then make sure to use a bandaid and some neosporin. Neosporin is ok to use once the burning has stopped. As long as you keep the burned area clean, it will eventually form scabs and heal.

I had this happen to me when I dropped a steamer on the top part of my foot. The swelling, water is all part of the healing process. The blister would leak water and then fill back up. I kept mine covered when I had my shoes on during the day. I hope it doesn't itch much and heals quickly!

We use tomato for burn treatment, it won't make your burn blister. Just slice a cold tomato and place it on the affected area.

We also use toothpaste, paste not gel...

When I burned it, it was just red when I was at work, so I thought, no big deal. I mentioned it to my manager but it didn't start blistering until I got home, so I didn't bother going to the doctor. And it didn't start weeping until about 1000 pm.

Never had a burn this big, so it's a little incredible to me, but it's definitely not a 3rd degree. It's a 1-2 degree burn.

I'll treat it as you have all said. Thanks so much. Feels sooooo much better today.

You still need to talk to your manager and fill out a workers compensation report of injury. Do it just to cover your butt in the case you need medication or medical treatment or time off due to the injury.

Thought I had to do it the same day, or is that not true since I mentioned it to her already?

You can still fill it out now. You already mentioned it to her, but you still have to fill out the form.

Hate to tell you but odds are against you at this point trying to claim any injury from your work. You absolutely, positively, have to file an injury claim immediately at your work before even leaving for medical treatment there after........ Think about it, why would they have any reason to except responsibility for any ER or other medical care bills after recorded employee injury......

Well that's what I thought. I just thought if I was supposed to still fill out a form I should?

I already had a doctor's appointment on Tuesday for all the other stuff going on with me, so I'm sure she can check it out and treat it then. If it's out of my pocket, well, I was already planning on that anyway.

I've had burns before, so I didn't make a big deal about this. I mean, it was no worse, just larger than the ones I had before.

She can still fill out the form and list the date of the accident and why it took so long to fill it out.

Seems logical. I'll text my manager and she what she wants. She may want to report it anyways, so that way we'll get the safety guards on the oven faster
It's not in her hands how the store owner spends the money, ya know.
