"No name" (14 week old grey male) has arrived from his foster home. He's confined to the spare room now and my existing cat, Libby (20 mos), doesn't know he is here yet. I put vanilla on both of them- Libby wasn't impressed.

I'll post pics soon.

Well so far, Libby is scared to go near the door to the room he is in. She's a fraidy cat in general and was a solo kitten her whole life. She hears him meowing but refuses to go near the door or our room. Usually she comes into our room every morning at 5.30am but she has stopped that. She's not playing or purring either.

My husband wants to show Libby the new kitten for a sec or two- just so she can see what is making the noises but I think we should probably give her more time.

What would you guys do?

Thanks!!!

No, just let her get interested at her own pace. Do you have the Feliway diffusers going? That should help her de-stress a bit. It's normal for them to feel intimidated; there's someone invading their territory! If you've not already read the introduction threads in the behavior forum, do that and follow them. Also, has the newbie been checked by the vet? If not, then you definitely don't want to introduce them until the newbie is cleared of all the kitty diseases and such. It will also work better for the new kitty to feel secure in his/her new environment before introducing to the resident kitty.
