Yogurt after antibiotics?

Ginger will get her stitches out in a few more days, and her course of antibiotics will be over. However, I've noticed that she seems to be having a few tummy issues, including soft stools.

I want to give her something to improve her "good" cultures but I don't know when it will be ok to reintroduce cultures into her system, considering she has a still-healing wound.

I've looked in the pet stores for probiotics especially for cats, but can't find any. And after paying her vet bills, we're broke until the 2nd of next month and can't afford to purchase anything further from the vet until then. I do however have yogurt, with live and active cultures. I want to know if it would be alright to give this to her, and when it wouldn't be a hazard to her immune system.

Let me know your opinions, please? And any specific pro-biotic products you know of?

When Pandora was on antibiotics she had tummy issues too. I gave her accidophilus from the health food store. It's beneficial bacteria in a capsule. I opened a capsule into her wet food in the evening. You can get accidophilus at Walmart. It's around $10 and will be in the vitamin section.

I did find an accidophilus tablet in the vitamin section, but it is a solid tabletted form, and specifically says "do not cut, crush, or chew" on the box. I will keep looking, and thank you.

Does anyone have any suggestions for when I should start giving this to her?

My natural vet is big on yogurt(any brand/flavor) daily. I have done it for few years and had vets look at me strangely so imagine how happy I was few months ago to meet this one who is like oh that's great!

I figured if its that great for ppl on antibiotics/everyone in general why would it hurt my cats? My guys get any whole milk(no fake sweetners/light) they do love vanilla and strawberry alot tho

Prissy gets to lick the lids off my yogurt cups. It's part of our arrangement. ^_^ I've found that she adores strawberry too, but does not much care for blueberry, coconut/pineapple, or apple flavors.

I'm just worried about Ginger's health being compromised. Her wound is healing pretty nicely, but still drains a bit which means it is still healing inside. I don't want the "beneficial bac" to end up causing an infection. I plan on asking the vet when we go in to remove stitches, but 1) my vet isn't specialized in nutrition 2)I doubt they've ever heard the word "Holisitic" and 3)it's still a few days away and I wanted some opinions. I have plain part skim organic yogurt, so I was hoping that might be alright on her system.

Skip the yogurt ... while it has probiotics in it they are very small amounts... Many studies have been done and found it to be more hype than help.... get a Capsule( ie you dump contents) of acidophilis or a multi strain from a health food store will do the trick... if you only have pet stores bene bac is good

I went to the Petsmart and even asked for help, but they didn't have Bene Bac. Is there any specific store you know of that carries it?
