I'm starting this thread as a spin off from another thread, where I noticed people were mentioning their cars' names.

So what is it, and why?

My 2008 Dodge Avenger (white) is Caterina. She has a cat face, even to the tabby M on her hood. (in the hood detail) I love Caterina, she gives me phenomenal gas mileage.

My car before Caterina was Penny. She was the first car I ever bought "new" from a dealer. (white 2000 Dodge Stratus, program car 17, 000 miles) I was so excited when I bought that car, it was like I had a new lover. Everyone kept asking me what I was naming it, but I'd never named a car before, my first car was a white 1993 Dodge Spirit, that I had always just called The Spirit.

So we were doing the letter P that day in school (I was in special ed then) and I held up two pictures for my student, and apple and a penny and asked her which began with P, the apple or the penny, a shiny new penny, like my shiny new car. And she became Penny.

Though I loved Penny she was a disappointment in the mpg department, and had leaks and was not a good investment, and died at 130,000 miles. I got 235,000 miles out of The Spirit, and hope Caterina can live up to that.

I talk to Caterina, too, by the way. I thank her for safe transport, and tell her good job when she takes a sharp turn, or climbs a steep mountain, etc.

The van is known as Goldfender. Yes, she has gold fenders and the name is appropos for someone with my last name.

The previous van was Chitty Chitty No Bang Bang because of her usual engine noise.

We have a 2006 Renault Megane and she is called Meg, 55mpg its a 1.5dci which is modified and instead of being 106bhp it runs at about 140bhp with the potential for a second stage chip taking it close to 160ish whilst still keeping great MPG lmao! and its only £30 a year to tax

Clarence is my "Arrest-Me-Red" 2001 PT Cruiser. He's the best car I ever had. Low maintenance problems, other than standard stuff: brakes, tires, etc. Now that he's older, he is starting to have some issues, but that's to be expected, I guess. He's 4-cylinder, so I thought he would get better gas mileage than he does. Manual transmission, 5-speed on the floor. About 140,000 miles. He's just a great car. If he would just learn that he has to stop at stop signs and to make turns in the snow, he'd be perfect.
Seriously, the Cruiser is a very light car and is not good in our Pennsylvania winters. When there is snow or ice, DH takes me to work; he won't let me drive the Cruiser.

DH likes to call him, the Puddy Tat Cruiser.
Somehow, he became Clarence, pretty much from the time I drove him off the lot.

I actually bought him sight unseen. Yes, I know, stupid, eh? You never do that. But back then, we couldn't find any Cruisers; they were too new. I had ordered one with the same stuff that Clarence had, but the salesman told me that there was a long backorder and it would take months for the car to come in. But then DH saw an ad in the newspaper that a local car dealer had four of them. I called down. Was it red? Yes. Was it a 5-speed? Yes? Did it have a moonroof? Yes. Don't sell that car! I'm coming down right now to buy it!

And that's how Clarence joined our family. Despite the fact that I get New Car Fever from time to time (lately I keep looking at the new Buick LaCrosse), I'm very happy with him.

I have a 97 2door cavalier named Bertha. Shes all banged up from the previous owner beating the crap out of her, wrecking her, and then leaving her sit to get lot rot. IF she makes it and doesnt get replaced shortly (if one more thing breaks shes done and getting scrapped) she will get painted and fixed up and her name will become Betty. The next car is going to be a boys name though cuz I alternate girl-boy. 1st car-Bessie 2-Pedro 3-Bertha 4-Gibbs or Mcgee maybe Jethro if its a beater car (I <3 NCIS)

You know, we really should get together sometime! Heck, we live right across the river from each other! If you do see an arrest-me-red Cruiser and there's a redhead behind the wheel, there's a pretty good chance that that would be me! (Especially if you get close to it and hear ACDC blaring away.)

DH doesn't "get" the whole forum thing either. He's always wondering what on earth we all find to talk about! He understands the whole cat-thing. But he would never answer some of these questions and he would ask me.....why?

I don't have a car, but I do remember that my brother and I named the family car - a '52 Chevy - "Nellie-Belle". And, no, it wasn't an antique car at the time. That was in real time.

Does anyone on here know what the name reference is?

I don't mind, thread drift is usually very interesting, and I think it would be neat for you two to meet.

My 1998 Ranger is Betty II, named after my 1968 Ranger, Betty.
Actually the 68 was named after the Ram Jam song, given that both trucks are black.

Hahaha! Well it just happens that I've been listening to the Yellow Brick Road album in Caterina for the last week or so, so I seem to be always humming that song lately

My 2003 Toyota Echo is named Sally Cinnamon, because she is dark red "Impulse Red Pearl" to be exact
, and because I love that song by the Stone Roses. And I thought, Cinnamon foods are sometimes red, so... yeah! Sally Cinnamon! She's a good one, I bought her new in July so wow, 7 years ago now! Not the color I wanted, I wanted light blue but they didn't have any and no other dealers in the area had any, and and I didn't want to wait.

Sally has only really needed brakes and tires (lots of tires- I must be hard on tires, at least 10 tires I've needed I think over almost 90,000 miles!!), oh and a rear passenger side window, which got broken by a big ol' rock (and the only thing stolen was my box of rare/signed/most valuable CDs) when I was having dinner in Columbus OH on my drive moving from PA to CA.
And I needed to get a new windshield too, a big crack appeared one day shortly after arriving in CA, maybe a rock hit it on the way out here, I don't know... So far the engine parts have held up well (knock on wood!). And my battery only finally died a few months ago, I'd had it for over 6 years! I didn't think they lasted that long.

So that's my Sally. Since moving to CA, I didn't have a driveway to wash her in, to I'd only occasionally drive her though a carwash, but not often.
But now that we're moving to a HOUSE with a DRIVEWAY and a HOSE, I can take care of her outsides a bit better! In fact, this past weekend was the first since we got the keys, and I thoroughly enjoyed washing her on Sunday afternoon, and will do so more often and get some good wax on her too.

Current truck is Buddy(if your good on this trip you get the good gas buddy)
first car was little b@$t@rd. Started fine-getting it to brake was another story. some real strange issue of brake gave it gas every so often so you always had to have time to take foot off and brake again. oh and it ate oil as a hobby and at end gas leak...tow truck driver did say that was a first hed ever towed

My 1989 Chevy Celebrity is named Farrah after Farrah Fawcett. I got her right after Farrah Fawcett died, and since my car is a chevy CELEBRITY I wanted to name her after a celebrity. It was either that or Michael Jackson... Farrah just sounded so soothing. She has a lot of rust, which I refer to as her cancer. That's not the most tactful thing I'm sure, and means no disrespect to the real Farrah (RIP) but in a car situation is a little black humor.
