What to do

I have been feeding a stray kitten/cat (I would put him at about 10 months) for over a week now, he is very friendly so has obviously been around humans. I started feeding him in the workshop and he has now moved into the laundery room I am sure I could trap him easely I can pick him up so no problem there. I dont want to bring him into the house yet for 3 reasons

1) what if he belongs to someone

2) he is a full tom and I really dont want him spraying everywhere (if I catch him I will get him done straight away)

3) I am not sure how he would react to the 7 dogs, he knows they are here as he sees them through the fence but close up may be different.

so I am not sure where to go from here, any ideas?

Ansers

1. Can you put a collar on him with a message?

2. Get him done anyway. No one should let a full tom run around.

3. Not an expert here, but can you get him in the yard where he has full opportunity to run away and try him with one dog at a time?

The fact hes and older kitten means to me either hes owned but not cared for or unowned. If he was younger I would say look for owner as he might have just slipped but theres a few months in between where they should have done the right thing. Also wait few weeks before trusting him not to spray cause that lovely smell will still be in urine itll hormones are out.

I would have him neutered and walk a dog past him outside or in a big enough area so he can hide/take off if need be. When I got my dog quite a few of my cats were ok and for the most part the others just stayed on tables/counters to overlook him. now they lay near him on floor.

Put flyers up in your area to see if anyone has lost him.

The rule that I live by is this: if they eat at my house, they are automatically fixed, no questions asked.

How are your dogs with cats? If you are not concerned that they will harm him, he might be a bit unnerved, but not in danger. If your dogs tend to become a pack and chase scared cats, then you really must test the cat around your dogs. Perhaps bring him inside with a single dog to see the reaction?

The dogs are fine around the cats, its just that the pups (Ziggie, Bryonie and Culotte) are always a bit too happy to see the cats, so overpowering.

I have noticed that he has now started sleeping out the back in the workshop, and is always in for breakfast so I think he has moved in

There are a couple of houses that may be the owners, so I will ask them.

It is a classic case of 'veni, vidi, velcro' - I came, I saw, I stuck around. He likes it chez toi!

You can tell from his expression and stance how wary he is, but he must be growing in confidence.

Yes I know but I hate to see them in a cage so I let him out in the study when I am in there.

Well wish me luck I am going to let him out tomorrow, he has been out in general population in the evenings and is doing ok with the dogs and other cats (pepper is not impressed) so its time to let him out and see how he does, keep your fingers crossed that he comes home.

It went really well, he is still a little worried about the dogs (but with 7 of them who wouldnt be) and Cookie seems to want to hit him all the time, but he is going out and about and I am getting him in in the evenings so he is getting into the swing of things.
