Silver boy - Thinking of naming him Azshara's Solstice Dancer

Smoke boy - no name thought of yet, but he's probably being sold as a pet unless a show home has some interest.

Have you got more babes on the way? I'm on countdown, 11 days to go.

My first home bred girl was mated, but appears to have not taken. I am still watching her, but she wandered the house yowling last night and is rolling quite a bit. She has subtle heats so it is not the easiest to tell.

No-one else is pregnant at this point, and I am eagerly awaiting the growth of silver boy to see if he can be my new stud.

Very cute - how old are they in the pics? And how old till you see the spots break up - they look too stripey now

Ocicats are usually born with most of the spots already separated.

Not at all uncommon for Oci’s to be quite stripy at first.

I the smoke boy! Someday I may just have to get a smoke kitty....

Amanda, not the ones I've seen. I can pick out the best spotted patterns the day they are born The spine lines usually are stripey at first and then break up a bit, but the good pattern ones are good from the start.

Maybe Maus are different as the spotting is smaller then the Oci spotting.

Yes I’m sure you think you can GK.

However, all the spotting in the world means nothing if the rest of the cat doesn’t meet the standard.

I can only speak from seeing kittens, both my own and another breeders I've seen in person when I say kittens born stripy can turn out to have a wonderful pattern once they grow and the pattern breaks up.

You have to stretch out the cat to fully appreciate the pattern. With kittens, you sometimes have to view the pattern angled from behind in order to tell that 'stripes' will break up.

The only stripes that are truly incorrect are pencilings, or solid side bars that extend from the very TOP to the very BOTTOM. An oblong spot is not a stripe, and it should not keep an otherwise ideal cat out of a breeding program.

A Mau's spots may be any shape or size as long as it is a spot. The pattern may be distributed in any way shape or form, as the standard calls for a random pattern. Breeders may have a personal preference for one type of pattern over another, but that does not make one more correct than the other according to the breed standard.

They're both beautiful.

I, admittedly, am not well-versed in mau breed standards, but something I am an expert in is cute! And, if I were the judge of cuteness, I'd say your two little angels are perfect specimens! They are just precious!

The silver boy is absolutely adorable. Silvers are so striking. I hope the little guy grows up well and is able to be your new stud. I've got no doubt that he'll be a gorgeous adult cat. But, the smoke...the smoke just took my breath away. I saw another smoke on this site (I think the kitten's name was Pancake and the breeder FerrisCat) and was smitten with her from the first moment I saw her. Smokes can be positively stunning -- like Nat, I may have to own a smoke one day (or, at the very least, let the smoke own me ). And, as I learn more about Egyptian Maus, I am finding that I really like the breed. I'd love to have a mau someday (and, perhaps a smoke at that!) but am enjoying living vicariously through the breeders here in the meantime. Both kittens are lovely and I hope they both do well -- whether the silver boy becomes a stud or the smoke becomes a show cat or pet.

Please keep sharing pictures of the two boys. They really are something special!

Pancake is my silver; Espresso is the smoke. Thank you for the compliment, I'm pretty smitten with her myself!

Looks like the smoke is developing into a much better Mau than silver - so, on the advice of my mentors I will probably be keeping him instead. He has nice proportioning, ear set and size, and a sweet expression. His coat is a it lighter than his Mom, and his spotting is coming through nicely.

Silver boy is still growing, but he is a bit stocky and rounded instead of being elegant. He'll make a great pet mau.

Silver's spots are separating, but he remains quite stripy. The issue is that he is quite small still and his coat is compacted. Once he grows into his coat, the spots will become more distinct. He has nice contrast, but the rest of him is not impressing the 'experts'

Awwww, they are adorable! I'll have to join the 'smoke team' but the spotted one has sooo cute face.
