My girlfriend left a bag of food out yesterday, and I had a swarm (many, many) carpenter ants swarming our apartment. I immediately put my cats in the bedroom (where they have remained since), and sprayed the area with RAID. Unbeknownst to me, RAID contains permethrin, which is highly toxic to only one mammal: cats.

I don't know how to clean the floor so that they can come out. I've used Windex (which is ammonia), but I don't know what will break it down. I don't want to lock them in the bedroom indefinitely. The entire landing (which is tile) could be contaminated, as could the main door. Like I said, this as a large swarm of ants.

I would call company just to see if they can answer this for you. Also see if theres any animal hotlines that are free to call(know some charge alot and in end worth it but if you search first might be able to find a reasonable one. Large vet hospital may know to.

Good luck!
