Hi all,

I just wanted to check with you all about cat feedings. First off, we had been just free feeding our cats dry food for the last few years, and we have been trying to change it over the last few weeks. The cats have been constipated( as I found out) and so we have been feeding them wet food at night with some water added just because its been hot and for hard stools sake. But here's the thing, we have 3 cats, so we divide a can of wet food between the three. Plus I have been giving them only a little dry food in their bowls, but not nearly as much as we used to give them ( now I give them 2x a day dry food but enough to cover the bottoms of their bowls). Is this enough? I notice in the mornings, they are hungry.

I did notice that our cat who I noticed was passing hard stool, the stool has become the consistency its supposed to. Any advice?

Thanks,

Shani

I would suggest reading the guideline s on the bag of food..... How much do your cats weigh? how old are they ? how active are they?

What brands are you feeding? what size is the wet can?

I have five 2 to 6 yr old cats ... They eat roughly 2.5 cups a day... they all are within normal wts : 9, 12, 13, 13 and 14 lbs ... they also split a can of wet food 5.5 oz...

When I had two females one yr old and 17 years old I went thru double the canned food and roughly 1 cup of dry( one weighed 8 lbs the other was underwt at 11

So we are feeding them Purina One and the wet food is meow mix market select. The wet food is a 78g cup that we divide 3 ways for them, with the added water for hydration. Also, two cats are 10 lbs, the other one is 12.

okay.. I am thinking either add more wet or dry.. the wet your feeding is giving less than one oz per cat( it is 2.75oz) ... Three cats of that size need roughly 300 calories a day each ( roughly 1/2 cup of most foods is 150-200 calories , most wet are 75-100 for 3 oz
