The question today is about your family tree.

Where do your parents/grandparents come from. My question is:

Where are your roots and have you ever visited there.

Mine are in Naples Italy. My parents were born here in the US but both my grandparents were from Naples, Italy. I did visit once while on a trip to Italy, I made a special bus trip to Naples from Rome.

It was a strange feeling knowing exactly where I came from and am so glad I made that special trip.

Norway - on both sides of the family. So, I'm "solid Norwegian", as my mom always says.

I've never visited Norway, but want to some day.

My parents were 100% Hoosier, as were my paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather. Maternal grandmother was from Missouri.

I have to go back to a paternal great great grandfather to get one not born in the US. He was born in England and came here as a boy about 1839. It appears the rest of my ancestors were in the US before its independence.

I have roots in England, France, Scotland, Italy, and Germany but have yet to visit any of those places.

How far back are we going with roots?

I am Crow, British, Dutch, German, Irish, Romanian, Mexican, and probably a whole slew of other things...

I was born in Louisiana but have lived here - other than my 2 year jaunt to Mississippi - in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Haven't made it back to Louisiana yet.

And I haven't made it out of the US ... yet.

I'm a genealogy nut, and have traced both my Dad's and Mom's (and DH's family as well) back to the first immigrants. One gr.gr.grandfather was born in Ireland, his wife was born in Scotland. Another gr.gr. grandfather was born in Germany, as was his wife. On the other side, that family has been here since the 1700s and can be traced back to England and Wales. I've never been to any of these countries, but I would love to see Scotland someday.

My roots are in Africa. 200,000 years ago. Just like everyone else.

And I finally got to go to Oldupai Gorge last year.

I honestly don't know. My dad's mom was born in Nova Scotia. His dad was born in Massachusetts. My mom's parents were both born here in South Dakota. My mom's maiden name (her dad's side) is Welsh. Her mother's maiden name was French. My last name (from my dad's side) is English. If everyone really came from the areas the names would suggest I just don't know. I should suscribe to a geneology website or something.

My grandmother on my dad's side was French Canadian ... I've been to Quebec ... does that count?
