Mods, feel free to move if there is a better place

8 weeks after losing Sam, I feel ready for another cat (despite saying I wouldnt go back up to 3!!). Buster has been with us so long he is due for his boosters in a month, and I doubt he was vacc'd as soon as he came in cos he was rather thin. His other name was twinkletoes, he does seem to have either extra toes or toes that are wider (he isn't keen on me investigating!!), and one of his front paws seems to be at a funny angle, although dont know if that is due to extra toes or not. The rescue think he is about 13. I did something I never do and let him loose straight in the house (mainly for Ellie, as she is lonely) - none of the girls like him though, have never heard Ellie hiss and growl at another cat before, so am going to have to put the cage up and give her some time to investigate him that way. He is a complete catnip junkie, and loves to play, and is really loving, but was more interested in teh catnip and toys than me last night!! He has spent a bit of time in the cat room and not noticed Clyde, which is a bonus.

Congratulations to you and Buster!

That's great that he loves to play at 13 years old. It sounds like you will be having a lot of fun with him. And I second the request for pictures, please!!

Oh so glad to hear Buster has a good home! You are such a good cat mum to take on this guy!

Any pics?

How are Ellie and Buster getting along now? Has she calmed down some? We must have pictures of the new guy!

I have plenty of pics, but struggle to get on my Photobucket account at home!!

He is an incredibly demanding cat, with some issues - in the two weeks he has been here, he has weed on 3 cat beds, 2 piles of clothes (not including hte ones that were on one of the cat beds), a doormat, a bathmat and a plastic bag - unfortunately he smells like he is entire, even though he doesn't feel it!! The rescue said he has always done that, and they just restricted what beds were in his room, but I will be getting a urine sample done when he has his full check up, and if that is fine, Feliway will be used!! HE also made me break a glass by butting my elbow as I was getting it out of the cupboard!!

He also is constantly demanding for something (I hope that is going to calm down either once he is more settled and realises he is staying, or when he goes out), and loves other cats - unfortunately he likes to play chase, and Ellie doens't like that - they will sit together and sometimes sleep together on my knee, but still weird when sniffing each other.

He definitely has deformed feet, he is missing claws on all 4 feet, his back right looks like it never formed properly, his toes aren't long enough and have a webbed look, his front left is turned in, so am giong to ask the vet about the chances of arthritis, and should I start him on glucosamine now?

As hard work as he is, I doubt anyone else would have either considered him or been able to put up with him (I have threatened him with going back more than once!!), so his alternative would have been a life in the rescue - and while we have a good set up for the cats, it isn't the same for an oldie.

I can't post pics either...too computer challenged!

Buster sounds like quite a guy! You have to love a cat though that head buts your hand and makes you break a glass! He certainly has some issues. But you are so good to take him in. He probably would have been looking at living his life out in the shelter.

God Bless you and all your buds!

I know how to do it, but home PC is rather old and struggles with certain websites!!

HE is, and as I keep telling him, it is a good job he is cute and lovable!! I think he would have lived his life out at the rescue otherwise, and he loves attention and playing so much, that I dont like to think of that. We have another oldie who isn't likely to go anywhere (and him and Buster shared a room) - once something happens to Zi, he will come here too, to live his life out. Not quite the cats I thought I would have, but both long termers with no interest.

What's Buster's history? Did he come from a hoarding situation?

Sorry, I must have missed that thread in the build up to my hol. No, he was in a room with just two other oldies.

Apparently he didn't wee on anything while I was away, but has gone OTT since I came back, the first week he weed on somethign every day, sometimes twice a day (and I did find something the day after I came back that was quite dry, so I suspect he had weed on it while I wasn't here, although the smell wasnt' obvious). His bloods were relatively fine, apart from anaemia, and I had taken up a urine sample that showed microscopic traces of blood, so they are suspecting the two are connected, although his kidney levels are fine, so they are more suspicious of his bladder. Options were to scan his bladder or put him on a/bs. I initially said ab's, but changed my mind overnight, as if it is more than inflammation, it is longer to get it sorted, so he goes for a scan on Tues (he has to spend the whole day there though, as they will need to sedate him - not cos of aggression, just that he would be too busy trying to get fusses from the staff to lie still!!). I was very close to sending him back to the rescue on Thurs though when he weed on my bed (fortunately found in time to do something about it before bed time). I picked up some Cystaid on Fri and touch wood he hasn't weed on anything since, and is so happy, I am glad I have persevered with him, he is currently playing with a ping pong ball while waiting for me to go and sit on the sofa so he can sit on my knee - he couldn't live his life out in a rescue (and at some points this week, that has been his only saving grace, as I know the rescue wouldnt' try and rehome him, I know how hard it is to find a home for a cat with weeing issues, and I knew my foster was doing it because of the stress of being in a multicat household, so it would stop once rehomed)
