I know a lot of you are young people and don't have issues with high cholesterol. I do and have for some years, but have refused so far to take the prescription meds for it. While my total number is high, my good cholesterol is very high and I am hoping that compensates for the bad. Anyway, I had to make a little office visit last Tues. and my dr. said it was time for a recheck on it. Then she said by the way, they have just come out with a study that says 67 grams of almonds a day, which is about eight, does the same thing a pill would do for you. I bought myself some, the unsalted kind, and am going to give it a try. Maybe someone else can profit by this tip too. A while back I bought some over the counter stuff from Wal Mart that is called Cholest Off. Has anyone here ever taken that for their high cholesterol. Just wondering. I bought it but haven't tried it yet.

My cholesterol is somewhat high but the ratio of good to bad is so good, from exercising my dr. says, that there is no need for me to be on meds or to really worry about it. So, exercise it is for me.

I added benefiber to my diet and we cut back on ordering out. It's finally coming down. I believe in taking the medicine, it's my doctor that doesn't with women in their childbearing years.

I haven't had mine checked in years, but I think I'll start eating almonds. Thanks, Blueyed!

I haven't heard about the almonds before, but I am going to try it. I love natural solutions. I probably won't be able to go off meds, but this may help. Thanks for the information.

I've actually heard the almond deal elsewhere, even on major news stations. I thought I heard 18 almonds, but don't quote me on that.

It's been shown that cholesterol level is not the predictor some think it is. No study has ever shown that high cholesterol causes heart attacks. Women with high cholesterol actually have a longer average life span than women without.

Dark chocolate, fish oil capsules, almonds, and aspirin actually seem to have the best affects on cholesterol and life expectancy.

Which is another reason not to get on statin drugs which can have serious side effects.

But if you still want to lower your test result numbers, other nuts that can help are hazelnuts, peanuts, pecans, some pine nuts, pistachios and walnuts.

A teaspoon of vinegar a day will also help lower cholesterol. You can get that with pickle juice or just take a tsp. a day.

I was on Lipitor for quite a while, until I started having funny liver tests. I'm just not convinced...
