Is anyone as sick of the heat and humidity as me?
It is so dry here the poor robins can't get worms. My fushias have to be misted at least 10 times a day to prevent them from dying and they are in the shade.

DH went out to weed wack yesterday, and came back in and said "ok, that's it for today" sweat dripping off his nose!

We are not used to this long a heat wave here in the north. Poor kitties just lay on the coolish floor. Although, the floors are starting to warm up too. They have fans as do we. It sounds like the runway at the airport in here!

Grandkids and I took turns yesterday misting eachother with the hose.

I am thinking of sleeping all day and doing housework in the middle of the night!

We are usually so busy outside. We have a little Scotty Trailer from 1961 that we want to refurbish. There is some siding we have to finish.

Oh well there is always September!

This is normal for my area. (Southern Indiana and the Ohio River Valley.) That's why I daily thank Mr. Carrier and his develoment of modern air conditioning.

What's this? A heat wave that's making it unusually hot in New York? Imagine that. (this isn't directed at you, but at people who think that weather and temperature patterns never change
)

You should look into getting AC if you don't have any. It'll only keep getting warmer each year and heat waves like this will get more common and longer. If you can't afford AC there are some free standing units that you can see if you can get free or at a reduced price in your area.
But those are usually pretty limited so you would have to start checking into it soon.

I hope everyone can stay cool. I live in an area were the heat is deadly, people die from it every year, so I don't dismiss the dangers associated with it.

Our spring started about two weeks earlier than it should have, with leaves and flowers bursting through ahead of time. Our June was one of the hottest Junes on record, but not only around here....in other states and countries as well. By mid-June, our grass was brown and crinkly; I think we may have mowed our lawn three times so far thus summer. And our local weatherweenies have already told us that the rest of this summer promises to just as hot if not hotter than we've already gone through.

In short, it's nasty outside right now. And our lack of rain is getting downright serious. We get a few storms from time to time, but we're seriously baking outside. We're lucky that we have AC. And I've been jumping in the pool at night, too. How sad is it that our pool water has remained above 85 degrees now for almost a month? Pool water!

DH did some chores outside this past week, but he came in often to cool down a bit. And we're keeping gallons of water, iced tea, and juices in the fridge.

While I agree that summers are hot and winters are cold, I also think it's going to get a lot worse both ways in the future. Our heat waves are going to continue for longer periods of time. I've never known triple-digit temps to continue for days and days on end, like we've been having here. Yes, it gets hot; it's summer and it's supposed to get hot and steamy. But to have that many continuous days of triple-digit temps with no storms? That's unusual around here.....or maybe I just don't remember those times.

We have hot water base board heat. It would be just too expensive. They'd have to run new vents and piping. My house is also 150 years old. The insulation is not very good. Nice house, but a bit drafty as houses this age usually are.

We had a window ac for our bedroom upstairs, but it just didn't do the trick. The windows are not typical size of new homes and the unit was not big enough to cool the room sufficiently.

Its just never been this warm this long. We have an occassional hot day here and there. But it is mostly in the high 70's. Plus, being between 2 of the great lakes we usually get a nice breeze. It is just a weird year.

If I thought that this was going to get worse each year, I think I would have to do something. My daughter closed off her LR with a door curtain and put in a window ac unit. That may be an idea for the future.

Here is an ice tea to you!! Cheers!

Yep, we have been having one too. It's not bad during the day, but to sleep in it at night is hard...even with our ac unit!

Yep, our summer started early too. I have wildflowers in the fields blooming now that usually don't come out till Sept.

My daughters pond water is 95! No refreshing dip there! It was 101.9 last week at a farm about 1 mile away! Thats nuts!

I like the weatherweenie term. Think I will use it. They keep promising rain...heck I could spit more than the rain we have had!

I usually think of Canada as cooler than here. Guess not!

Yea, sleeping is really getting hard. We have a fan that oclilates at the foot of the bed. I just lay there and wait for it to come back to my side!

They say storms this afternoon.....we'll see......

We have been having it really hot and dry over here as well, well into the 30°s the crops are doing very badly and there is no grass for the cows to eat, so they are already on thier winter rations, thankfully we have had rain in the last couple of days and today is much cooler. Hope you all manage to keep cool.

No no, I'm talking about the energy efficient free standing units you can wheel between rooms. I figured that if you didn't have AC already that either A) you didn't have venting for it or B) you wouldn't have the money to install something like that.
With the units that go inside you simply plug them in and take care of them.
There was some brand that was offering 11,000 or so free units on a first come first serve basis... I can't remember the name and I guess I tossed that paper out - the company name started with an M, though.

And sorry to all those not getting their normal rain. I think it got dumped on us here in the south. We had an usually wet July. Though that's mostly through now and it's back to the 100+ degree weather for us.

It has been unseasonably hot here in NC too. I have been really watching my cats since they live outside. But for now, we are finally getting some rain showers and that cools things off for a while.
We do have central A/C so we can stay inside. Us old folks just can't take the heat.

The poor cows. I will have to check the corn fields. The leaves of the corn tend to roll up and get pointy to conserve moisture. I hope they dom't run short next spring

Hope it stays bearable on your side of the pond!

Gee, I am usually pretty up to date on stuff for the home. I have not seen these. I am going to google now!

I think we had a wet June. Dry as a bone now.

I cant even say I want northern weather like I normally do this time of year! Though the heatwave is hitting us here too, even though temps are normally higher. We've had heat indexes in the 120s. Ugh. My grandma told me in Jersey it's been pretty darn hot, and when I looked at the weather map with the reds/oranges/etc for temp, the red was stretching all the way to new england and I was shocked!

I'm sick of the humidity and heat and not being able to stand outside more than 10 minutes without my shirt getting soaked with sweat, and I'm not even a big sweat-er

^I have reduced sweating as part of my NCS/POTS which means I can't cool off very well. In this heat it feels like I'm being baked alive.

They've been around for a while, though I'm not sure how popular they've been in the US. I know of the units because a few years ago some European friends were getting them because their homes normally don't have AC and the summers were just getting much too hot. (for example, ~30,000 died from heat related deaths during the summer of 2003 over in Europe. They just weren't prepared for long heat waves)

You likely do have to have proper amp outlets for them. So you'll have to take your wiring into consideration - just like you would with a window unit. But that would give you the option of cooling a certain amount of square feet (like a living room) then wheeling it off to a bedroom later.

Yes I am very sick of this horrible weather. I do have central a/c but need some fresh air and there just isn't any. Once you step outdoors it's like walking into a steam bath and it just makes me sick. This is one of the worst summers ever.

I feel so bad for Autumn since I haven't had the windows open in at least two weeks straight and she loves sitting at the open windows. My sister's doggie won't stay outside very long either, it's even too hot for her. It looks like all of next week will be horribly hot also, there just doesn't seem to be any end to this hell-like existence.

Winter, hurry up and get here pleeeeeeeze.

I agree it has been unusually hot here too. It feels like almost the entire month of July has been warm and muggy. I have central air in my house but my upstair still gets warm. I had to set my air at 68 yesterday during the day because it started getting warm and humid on my 2nd floor. I can not go outside really because hot humid weather like this is a huge migraine trigger for me.

I love going out for karaoke but I now have to call every place I go first to make sure that they have air conditioning and actually have it on. I may actually have to change my plans for tonight because I found out the place we were going does not tend to turn on thier AC.

Last night I ended up with a headache from the humidity while I was out. I still have that headache. I have been drinking more water when I go out but it does not help.

I really hope that the heat index here will get out of the 100's and 90's. I could also do without the dew points being in the upper 70's and 80's.

Next week is supposed to be worse then this week.

Water doesn't do much good unless you replace your electrolytes, too. If not on any medications or have high blood pressure to contradict it, drink some gatorade or other electrolyte replacement drinks.
You can also take and wet down a wash cloth, shape it into a ring, and put it in the freezer. After it's chilled a bit it will slip right around your neck and stay there until it thaws (which would be, what? 30 secs if you're outside?
)

For those that can have them, do you have attic fans that kick on during the heat to vent that hot air out of the attic?
