Hi, firstly I have not come on here to get advice on what I should or should not have done in the past - just what I need to do now to help my pet.

I have a 7 month old kitten that is 1 week off giving birth. I will add that I had no idea she was pregnant until a week or so ago when the vet confirmed it and it is very obviously too late to have her spayed now. She is a house cat that my 4yo let out accidentally once or twice recently.....

She is enormous around the middle and the vet believes she is carrying 3/4kittens.

However she is very thin on her back, hips, chest and I need some advice on how to put weight on her.

She is wormed and is eating vast quantities and I mean ad lib quantities of top quality wet and dry kitten food.

She seems quite well in herself at the moment and is moving freely albeit a bit laboured (but assume this only to be expected). Her coat is what I would call staring ie it is not shiny and is not lieing flat and sleek.

Please - what can I feed her that is suitable for cats and very high weight gaining????

You could buy some cans of Hill's a/d from the vet, it's a very high energy food for convalescing cats. You could also get some kitten formula like KMR and mix it through her wet food once a day, it's energy rich and the extra calcium is good to prevent eclampsia.

My friends who have pregnant cats (some breed, some foster strays) always feed them raw meat because that is very rich food too, but in my country there are a lot of safe complete raw mixes commercially available. If you can find something like that where you live that might be a good choice too.

Anytime you've got an unspayed girl over 4 months who's been let outside it's pretty safe to assume they could be pregnant.

Was the vet at all concerned about her weight? Surely s/he would have given some recommendations if it were a concern.

You might supplement with some raw meat, stir fry strips or casserole cubes are easy and convenient. Like Mimosa, raw mixes are readily available here you might try a butcher depending on where you live.

Hopefully you can get her and the kittens spayed/neutered before adopting out, and get mum tested for diseases since you don't know the status of who she mated with.

If she is dewormed, and eating big quantites of first rate wet and kitten food, the most important is done.

Raw meat with egg yolks is nice, if you can find is salomonella-free in your country.

I was thinking as my advice here of some form of a nice vitamine+ minerals-addition. There are some different preparates. And some are really great. It depends on what is accessible in your country... If you dont have any well sorted animal-shop nearby, try perhaps on some shop in the internet. The quickest deliver in a couple of days.

Good luck!
