We have a kitten at our shelter Isis, who is drinking & peeing like a maniac. She has already had a full blood pannel. All of which was normal. Two weeks on antibiotics made no improvement. So now it is time to begin testing for the more unusual and difficult diseases. I will be taking her home tonight to do a water deprivation test. She will be without water for 6 - 8 hours & then have a urinalysis. This will check for a UTI (they can be difficult to medicate), and check to see if she is consentrating her urine. The amount of water she is drinking makes it possible she has diabetes insipidus. If the urine is concentrated, we will will know it's not D.I. If it is not concentrated, she will need to have an offical D.I. test. This has to do with injecting with the hormone she would be missing. I am a little nervous about her being without water for 6 - 8 hours, but luckily I live less than 5 mins from an ER vet. Isis is a sweet and beautiful little girl. So please send vibes for our little Isis. I am hoping that the drinking is behavioral (bordome at being in a cage), and not D.I.
