a stray brought kittens to our house and we were able to catch 3/4 and gave 2 of them away to my friend. we kept the 3rd and tried to catch the 4th but didn't even think it existed for the longest time til the mom abandoned it and it made it's way to our porch and now it comes and eats and sits and plays but it won't let us touch it much. my mom has surprised it a couple of times to hold it but it scratches and hisses and we're trying slowly to tame it. we decided since it's been here long enough and will come when you call it, that we're gonna try to tame it so we can get her spayed that way and if not, use a trap when she's a bit older [not old enough yet according to vet].

we decided to name her molly.

Get her trapped, and get her spayed. Even at her young age being outside she will get pregnant soon. Once you get her spayed, get her inside and work with her there. Plus, spaying her will calm her down a bit and she will be more susceptible to being socialized. She does not look feral at all- just scared and not used to people.

she's not even 3 months old yet? i dont think she can be spayed yet according to the vet. if the vet says too young obviously they're not going to do it. how old do they need to be?

I dont understand, why does the vet thinks traps cant be used on kittens??

Can it be a misunderstanding? Some vets dont believe in early spaying.
So he perhaps meant: "we want to trap her and bring in for spaying to you" - "nay, she is too young".
In this scenario, this nay would be against the early spaying... Not against the trapping as such.

So. Do trap her, or take her inside in any other suitable way. Especielly as she isnt really feral. Trapping her btw dont matter much if she is "feral" - she is 100% fosterable. You had already began, and she is still very young. Two heavy factors!

But the self moment of catching is easiest and most common - by the trap.

Take her in and begin to foster.

If its ok for you with early neutering - do so - maybe even right together with the trapping, vet check up etc...
You shall probably have to ask another vet to do the surgery.

if it isnt ok for you with neutering yet - keep her inside and proceed with fostering. And spay when you are mature for it.

Tx for helping Molly and her siblings!

Good luck!

Most vets will now neuter at 2 pounds, depending on the health of the kitten. Age isn't so much a factor anymore because of how prolific these cats as breeders are. At least get her inside and keep her safe from prowling toms-
