Ginger is doing great! She's even been playing today!
Her wound is less red and less swollen today. It doesn't seem to be itching or hurting as badly, since she hasn't once scratched at it today. She's put on some weight already, too. She's not all skin and bones today, which is a great relief to Meowmy. She's still being a bit of a velcro kitty, but she's getting a bit better. She's adoring all the special food and attention that she's getting too. She's been walking around today with a little pot belly from being so full! She prefers a liquid diet right now though. I'm not entirely sure what that's about. If I put down broth, she'll lap up every last drop. But if I put down solid food, even canned, she has a few bites and walks away.
She's been acting mostly like a normal cat today. She freaked out on the chirpy bird this morning and was tossing it around the living room, attacking it, chewing on it, and kicking out its guts. I was a little worried about her aggravating her wound, but I figure she'd stop if it was hurting her, right? Although I have to admit, when she grooms herself I want to cringe and make her stop. I can see the wound getting stretched and pulled and folded, and I keep thinking "that's got to hurt, she should stop". But again, won't she stop short of actually injuring herself again? Maybe the stretching is good -- maybe it will keep a rigid tight scar from forming. -shrug- I guess we'll find out.
Cody has taken to calling her "FrankenGinger", because of the stitches in her neck... It's hilarious but terrible all at the same time. It's funnier though, considering she actually comes to him when he calls her FrankenGinger!
A few strange things I've noticed today -- other than the preference for liquid food. She like having her ears rubbed. Most other cats I've had, including Ginger pre-injury, flick their ears or fold them back when you touch them. But Ginger purrs like crazy and leans into it if you rub her outer ears between your thumb and fingers. Her purr has changed too, as well as her meow. It's not a huge difference but it's noticeable. Ginger also doesn't like some of her favorite foods. I put down a bite of a chicken sandwich, which she would have inhaled before, but she sniffed it and walked away. She also walked away from the group meal of moist food last night. She doesn't want outside at all, and she's not hissing and growling at Smudge like she used to before she vanished. She's also insanely jealous of her twin brother Cuddles getting in my lap. That's enough to start a war over! I'm not sure what it means, other than I have a whole new puuuursonality to get used to.
But she laid in the sun this morning, and conquered the chirpy bird, and took her meds in the tuna juice like a pro.
