Not another question about dry food

I have 2 16yr olds that are slowing losing weight as they age. A 3/4 yr old who is 17lbs, and a kitten who is just 3 months. We free feed but will need to change that to get the one to lose weight.

Any opinions, thoughts, concerns, etc about the following foods? It is so hard to pick a dry food that is good and the cats will eat. Plus all the stuff about good and bad grains, meat or by products, etc makes it harder to choose.

Taste of the Wild
Natural Balance (any variety)
EVO
Blue Buffalo Wilderness or Basic

I have access to a feed store which carries most of the "natural" lines as well as Petco for mass market stuff.

Wellness wasnt a hit here. Royal Canin was the most preferred.

Not sure if your feed store carries this but i feed Nature's Variety Prairie! It isnt grain free but contains meat as a #1 ing and healthy grains. Comes in 3 flavors and is an all life stages food:

Chicken: Chicken Meal, Brown Rice, Oatmeal, Chicken Fat, Menhaden Fish Meal, Ground Flaxseeds, Montmorillonite Clay, Natural Chicken Flavor, Sun-Cured Alfalfa Meal, Potassium Chloride, Sea Salt, DL-Methionine, Vitamins...

Lamb: Lamb Meal, Canola Oil, Oatmeal, Brown Rice, Ground Flaxseeds, Montmorillonite Clay, Natural Lamb Flavor, Sun-Cured Alfalfa Meal, Menhaden Fish Meal, Potassium Chloride, Sea Salt, DL-Methionine, Vitamins...

Salmon: Salmon Meal, Canola Oil, Brown Rice, Oatmeal, Barley, Pumpkinseeds, Ground Flaxseeds, Montmorillonite Clay, Natural Chicken Flavor, Potassium Chloride, Sea Salt, DL-Methionine, Vitamins...

Neko has tried both salmon and chicken and loves them both. We are doing another bag of chicken and then trying out the Lamb. She transitions well on the diff flavors since most of the ing are the same.

If not the above then i vote Taste of the Wild from the list you've given! Neko was on TOTW before Prairie and she loved it also. We just had to change due to her allergy on peas

With the ages you said I would actually go with the royal canin that they liked...

Natural balance would be my second choice as it is not out of range for a senior

Thanks for the responses. They do have Natures Variety at the feed store so I will check it out.

I might stick to the RC for the older cats since they enjoy it. I wanted to get the kitten and the 3 yr old on something without all the corn. Though I have been reading that corn isnt always an issue with dry.

corn is not as digestable as other grains(lol that is a oxymoron for a cat as they do not need grains but a dry food will have some binding agent ( usually grain or heavy starch like pea or potato)... Corn is not a top alllergen in a cat thus many who cant have some of the easier to digest grains can have it...

If your able to separate and feed two different foods... IMHO the taste is the best for the $$
