I feel HORRIBLE!

I feel so guilty guys. I went to go into the bathroom this morning to get ready for work, not knowing that as I shut the door, Azizi's tail was in the back part of the door, getting caught. I heard a growl and a hiss, opened the door to find a huge bunch of fur caught in the door, Azizi booting it down the stairs, blood dripping from his tail! The tip of his tail, a little over an inch is bald and bloody. It's obviously bothering him because he keeps attacking it. I'm just waiting for the vet to open to have him checked out. Dana doesn't think there's much they can do, but I don't care, he NEEDS to be checked out. Please wish us luck.

Vet appointment in 1 hour.

Don't beat yourself up, accidents unfortunately happen. I lifted the kids metal kibble bowl up to be refilled on sunday and accidently tapped Sophie's face with it because she moved further in She ran away from me and looked at me in sheer fright, but once i picked her up to cuddle and say sorry she was fine.

Lots of mega healthy healing coming from Azizi, and start getting ready to grovel to him

Thank you hun.

So I just got home. As feared, the tip of his tail was what they call "degloved" meaning the tissue came off with the fur and it needs to be amputated. They kept him there to fast, will operate this afternoon and we can bring him home this evening. My vet is wonderful and was very gentle, but I think I need a few stiff drinks now.

Awww bless his little heart. I'm sure he'll soon forget about it eventually, but that's great that you get him back home this evening. At least you know your vets lovely as well so that's reassuring to know he's in good safe hands

You have a couple of drinks because i can imagine how you must feel even though it was an accident.

If your anything like me, after this your eyes will be everywhere. If i'm in the kitchen, you can guarantee Rosie will either sit or stand right behind my legs, so i've learnt now to always look behind me before i move

Oh I am glad he is going to be ok.

Go ahead and have a drink. It is so stressful when we do something ourselves to cause our buds pain. And we beat ourselves up over it...I know I do.

You are a good mom to take him in so fast. Accidents do happen. Just cuddle him and he will forgive you. He already has.

Sweetie, these things happen to all of us sometimes. It was an accident and he's all ready forgiven you. Please forgive yourself. I know you are more upset about this than he is...I've stepped on Bella so many times and she still loves me!!! You took him took the vet ASAP, that's what counts. All the wonderful things you do for kitties in this world--DO NOT BEAT YOURSELF UP over this... Yes you are a fantastic mama kitty to all your babies

Awwwww..... I know we feel so helpless and blame ourselves when we accidentally do something to our little buddies. But he'll welcome your hugs and kisses when you get him back, and it's so good you got him to the vet right away. You're a wonderful mommy to all kitties......he'll be happy to be home!

Kailie, I'm sorry. Poor Azizi. But accidents happen and they even happen to the best kitty moms......and you're a great kitty mom! Sometimes they just get into the wrong place at the wrong time. He'll be fine, he just has to recuperate from the operation and he'll come back home. He'll forgive you.....I know he will.

As Rosiemac said, be prepared; you've got some major groveling ahead of you!

Sending you and Azizi some (((hugs))).

Aw, that's just rotten luck. I hope he'll be better soon.

Try not to beat yourself up about it, accidents happen. Almost everyone has had things like that happen (or will in the future) I'm sure. I know we have.

Thank you so much all, you're all so wonderful...

I'm just waiting for the call saying he's fine, poor doll. Oh trust me, I'll be groveling all right, but I know he'll forgive me because he is such a sweet, adorable baby boy. I guess a new nickname for him now will be stumpy.

Vibes for the kitty's health, Kailie, as well as an accident-free home

Oh, poor both of you! Best wishes for a good surgery and quick healing - and accidents do happen, no matter how vigilant any parent (human or pet) is.

I think you did absolutely the best thing by getting into the vet so quickly -you're a good momma.

The vet just called and Azizi is out of surgery and it went fine. He has stitches that will have to be removed in 10 days and we can pick him up later this evening. Can't wait to see my lil man.

Well really, that's just a regular day around here. He ALWAYS gets whatever he wants. Mommy will be doing absolutely everything possible to make him happy and comfortable though.

Glad everything is going ok

And yeah try not to beat yourself up, when I was younger I was running my mouth and not paying attention to my gray tabby when he came in and shut a sliding glass door on the end of his tail!

Best wishes to both of you!

Do not feel bad it was just a accident.
I have done it before also and my cat screamed.
Sorry he needed surgery but I am glad he will be home soon.

Another guilty mom here! I caught my baby's tail in my dresser drawer. She walked up underneath it while it was open and I didn't see her. Then when I closed it, it caught her tail. She now has a permanent knot in her tail where it got pinched. Otherwise though, it's like it never happened.

I have got all 3 of my kids(2 with fur, one without) with the remote on their heads. I've screwed up with all 3 and hurt them. They forgive you.

Kallie-

I do hope your Azizi is feeling right as rain soon!! My Azizi sends greetings and also hopes he feels better.

I know how horrible that is to do something accidental like that and cause them pain *hugs*

Thank you again all, I don't know what I ever did without this forus, seriously.

Azizi is now home, groggy and wobbly but home. We tried to keep him in our bedroom alone to rest but he was having none of that. He has a funny looking yellow bandage on his tail which needs to come off tomorrow evening. All of the others have been sniffing him, wondering why he smells funny. We're just glad he's home and ok, even if he DOES have a stumpy tail.
Aww, poor guy. Glad to see he's home and doing ok! He probably already forgave you, as I'm sure he knows you love him to bits and didn't mean to get his tail.
That's how I'll make my fortune. If I can just design a good cat tail prosthetic and patent it so that de-tailed kitties would have their confidence back.
I did something similar about a year ago. a baby kitten put foot in closet door. he was fine tho limping for a day after. vet said if he was any older more damage would have been done...fast recovery for your lil one!!!!

How's your little muffin man today?

I fell down the stairs carrying Bobby who had just turned 1 the day before. I held on to him tight and sacrificed my back and tailbone. I went down on my butt, the carpet on the stair slipped out. Patrick did the same thing and saved himself and Bobby who was 18 months went down the stairs. The difference between mom and dad.

When he was 1 week old I had to lightly 'toss' him on the couch after I tripped over his bouncy seat so I didn't fall on him.

He had an 80 lbs Old English sheepdog step on his head when he was 4 months old. Abby was blind, so it wasn't on purpose. I was right there and I just couldn't pick him up in time. I also couldn't grab him fast enough when he was 9 months old climbed up the back of the futon and fell head first onto a hardwood floor. He freaking laughed as I rushed to call the doctor in a panic. They told me to watch him for a head injury but he was fine.

I have also stepped on all of them(except Bobby he knows not to get underfoot.)

I have had to grab the cats on various parts of their bodies to get hold of them. I've got skin, fur, I think I got a tail once. As soon as I could grab them properly I did(and I let the cat I had by the tail go) but when you need to get them sometimes you have to grab what you can. I accidentally put Attitude in a too small harness(I realized that the second I got it clipped.) I've cut a few nails too short.

We have all hurt our kids but the furry ones forgive you quickly, the non furry ones, who talk and are older, do but it takes longer. Babies are like cats they forgive as quick as you can get them to quit crying.

I hope Azizi feels better soon. Don't feel bad, we've all done it.

Ugh, what a night. At 3:30AM I heard a scream, boulted out of the bedroom to find Azizi had torn off his bandage and was bleeding everywhere again. It didn't look like he popped a stitch, he just irritated the wound. So I brought him back into our bedroom with us, told him it's too bad if he didn't like it, he needed to stay away from the other's and rest. There's blood smudges all over our bed now, but the bleeding DID stop and thank goodness he seems fine now. He IS very restless however. He has obviously forgiven me and is incredibly lovey, but he keeps coming to me all frantic as if to say "Mommy, make it better, PLEASE."

You all have been wonderfully supportive, but my heart still hurts. I'm working from home again today to watch him.
