Precious will tell me when it is time to go to bed. If she thinks I have been up to late or she wants me to go to bed so she'll get attention, she'll come up next to me on the floor and will meow and then roll over on her back while looking at me with these adorable eyes and her paws above her head. I know that this means it is bed time. I know because she has me trained to know.
She started doing this when she was a kitten and so I would say "Is it bed time?" or "Are you wanting to go to bed?" and she would meow back at me and then I'd go to bed and she'd hurriedly follow me. She quickly learned how to get me to go to bed.
Do any of your cats do this?

Aww that is cute!
Only 2 of mine sleep with me. They're not like Precious though. They'll just wait by my bedroom door and follow me inside no matter what time it is.

Awww, that is cute as well! It's as though they know.
And indeed, they probably do.

Precious does not do this all the time but she does do it a lot. Also, she usually will not sleep through the whole night in bed with me. Normally she will stay in the bed until I am asleep and then she will get up and go to the living room to sleep. I think she likes it better in the living room because more sunlight gets in here and so she likes being woken up by the sun shining through the windows.

Wow, this thread made me jealous! Mine just try to keep me awake (and playing!) right up to the second I fall asleep!

Sophie will come to bed with me when I lie down, but first I have to CATCH her and bring her to the bedroom (this usually involves bribery with treats, and/or some clever laser pointer usage). Jack insists upon being in whatever room I'm in, so I don't have to bribe him to come to bed...but he will sit next to the dresser drawer where I keep Da Bird and meow incessantly at me to play "just one more time, pleeeeeeease!?" right up to the moment I turn out the light (and unfortunately, for a good while after, as well). Mind you, I usually give him a good play session about 10-15 minutes before I turn in. The boy recovers fast!

Someone please tell me that this hyper teenager phase doesn't last long?

Aww, this is a good question. I had a kitty, Patches, that would know when it was bedtime. As soon as I would turn the TV off in the living room she would dash into the bedroom and jump up on the pillow. She knew where I was headed. The other cats would casually follow us. Bella, on the other hand, will wait until I'm in the bed and come to the door and look at me. She's so polite, she won't enter until I call her. We go through this every night

This is so cool reading about other people's bedtime experiences with their cats.

We go to bed after 11 through the week, but weekends i'm always up really late, so sometimes the kids make their way up and are already asleep on the bed when i eventually go up

I first get the glare, but if I am up too late, I get a toenail in my kneecap.

The first night Ritz was home from being spayed, I figured I'd sleep on the floor with her so she wouldn't be tempted to jump up on the bed. I also figured that we'd sleep in the tv room, which has more floor space than my bedroom. So at bedtime I laid on the carpet, with blankets, pillows etc., waiting for Ritz to join me. Instead, Ritz walks slowly to the door by the bedroom, turns towards me, looks at me saying with her eyes, "um, this is the room where we sleep". So I of course pick up my gear and join her on the floor in the bedroom, where we spent an (uncomforable) night.

One of our kitty's is my husbands baby..his name is Henry, and he needed bottle fed as a baby by my husband....and has literally been stuck up his butt since. This cat takes ages to warm up to others, hated me at first because I took up space in the bed, and now he is used to me but still LOVES my husband way more. We go to bed pretty early on weeknights, due to our wakeup time of 415am, and Henry sits on the stairs and waits for us....on weekends he gets mad! He will run into the living room....stare at us....and run towards the stairs like he is trying to get us to follow him. If we walk anywhere near the stairs and its past bedtime, he meows at us like he is saying "cmon dad & mom" and runs up. So funny!
Our other cats are also VERY used to their can food times. We do one can in the morning and one at night. As soon as the alarm goes off and one of us heads downstairs, they all run into the kitchen and cry til they get food. At night, once its around 7pm they just all sit in the kitchen and wait. They are very good at knowing what time it is!

Ginger kitty, the girl I just lost
, would tell my husband it was bed time. Every night right around ten she would jump up on his stomach where he was laying on the couch. She was never more than ten minutes off, either. She would sit on his stomach and stare at him for a minute, then meow at him if he didn't get up. If he didn't say "ok, bedtime", she'd just curl up on him and sleep right there. As soon as he said "bedtime", though, she's jump down, run for the bed and curl up there.

She would start out at the foot of the bed and put her chin on her crossed front paws, looking so comfortable. When we came in, she'd always have her eyes closed but would look up when we came in. She would just have this look of "I'm being good. Don't move me. Let me stay." It was a look to break hearts.

When we did let her say, she'd wait for us to get comfortable and still, then she'd sneak up and lay on top of us. If we were close enough, she'd put half her body on each of us. If not, she'd settle for just curling up on Hubby again and purring -- loudly -- for hours.

It became a bedtime ritual, and it's something I will really really miss. I don't know what to do without my girl. For a cat that was always supposed to go to another home, she sure secured her place in my heart and home. Everyone who has a bedtime kitty -- snuggle that baby close to you for me.

Yes!

Dusty will just stand there and meow! She does this as soon as it gets dark. She has been known to chase company away!

My boys are the cuddliest cats I have ever seen. They don't care when bedtime is- what matters is when they want to cuddle (nearly all the time). If I am wearing my robe, Ringo will be, without fail, on my chest (whether I'm sitting, standing or laying down) suckling away. He also does this when the robe is on the floor.
They are very persistent too. If they want to cuddle, they rub all over your face (we are trying to stop this!) and anyway they can until you do so. They also do this in the morning to say "wake up, pet me!" Pat says I broke them, but I love how cuddly they are. They need love to survive!

I'm a bit late to the party here, but what the heck?

My wife and I usually go to bed at very different times (she much earlier than I). Our wonderful former cat Harvey would stay up with me, sitting right next to me on the couch, but if it started getting too late he'd start giving me dirty looks and making it clear that it was time to go to sleep. When he passed away earlier this year, I missed MANY things about him, but one of the biggest was having a "staying up late buddy" to keep me in line.

Our new kitten Toby is a little different. He usually just ends up going to bed on his own (right in between our pillows), some time after my wife goes but before I do. Most nights I come in to bed and he's sleeping away there. A few nights ago, instead of being between the pillows, he was right in my spot! I tried to just squeeze myself onto the very edge of the mattress to avoid disturbing him, but he woke up and moved to his normal spot on his own. Last night, I guess I woke him up when I went into the bathroom to get ready for bed. He pushed the door open (we really have to make sure it's totally latched if we want to keep him out) and hung out with me while I got ready. Then he came back to bed with me.

So, we don't quite have the routine down with Toby yet, but we're getting there. He's very sweet and most nights sleeps between us all night long (every once in a while he gets wild around 4 or 5, which is a bit early).

Yes!! It always makes me smile to read that I'm not the only one who does this. Sophie likes to sleep right smack in the middle of my bed...usually she ends up right along the inside of my leg (which means I can't move or turn over, but who am I to complain?
) Since I close both kitties in the bedroom before getting ready for bed, occasionally she'll take her place BEFORE I come in. Oh, the acrobatics and twisted yoga positions I get into, trying to get under the covers and situated without disturbing Queen Sophie-Ann!

Danny doesn't have a set bedtime, but he gets a little impatient if it gets too late. (In my Poor Richard-style life that is anytime after 11:00.) Of course this does nothing to prevent him from waking me in the small hours if he is hungry, playful or just plain restless!
