Wow, I can't believe another Friday is here, a week goes by sooo quickly!!
But being nosy as I am, I am sooo glad it's time for me to ask a daily question again

Soo today's question..

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grow up as far as job goes??
And did you change your mind and do something different or did you actually stay true to your childhood dream??

I wanted to be a pilot when I was a kid. As I grew up, I decided that I wanted to be a photographer. I would still love to be a photographer but its so expensive to go to school for it by the time you buy all the supplies.

I currently just work retail and that is definitely not what I thought I would be doing. Hoping to go to college next year.

Where I am, it's still Thursday. But anyway, would Friday not be the 9th... of July?
Sorry, it entertained me.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a vet or a teacher. Yeah, being a teacher would make want to pull my hair out and I could never handle being a vet. Too much biology involved, not to mention seeing so many animals suffering and dumb owners. I turned out to be an Esthetician!

I loved animals, so I wanted to be a vet - but I loved loved loved being on my grandpa's farm every summer, so I was torn between that and being a farmer (another good way to love animals LOL).

By the time I got to high school, I was way too into politics, by then I just had this vague "I want to help people." I definitely pursued this in college. I went to a Quaker College, and majored technically "political economy." It's hard to explain - we didn't really have courses, it was experience-based learning and everything was either internship based or project-based work. I spent my time in NYC, Central America, and India. I "studied" Liberation Theology by working to help political refugees get out of various countries in Central America and to NY, and then spent time there continuing that... and spent time in India working with various development projects.

My ultimate career ended up being managing money and equity research. I got there because college was ending but my eduation wasn't complete.
I wanted to learn how money worked in markets and an economy. Where I wound up was just a fluke, but in the end it worked out well. Helping people and animals was something I did/do with the money I/we earn(ed).

Geology - particularly plate tectonics or geomorphology. I wanted to do actual work that would have me out in the field in person whenever possible. That dream kind of died along with my health.

I actually wanted to be a vet. But two things stopped me - one my fear of needles (still cannot deal with them) and two I couldn't do chemistry (that is part of the training in becoming a vet).

My job now is a Legal Assistant in the government working for a judge.

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
I had a lot of things I wanted to be but my biggest dream was going to Gettysburg College majoring in history minoring in Civil War Era Studies and then working for the History Channel specifically the Civil War Journal.....that changed cuz my mom didnt want to pay for college, she didnt get the good deal like my brother and sister where if they went to school their dad had to pay for half. So here I am addicted to my animals taking care of them and BF. All in all..It works for me and Im happy.

I also wanted to be a vet growing up, but was TERRIBLE with science and really hated it. Plus as I grew older, I knew there was no way I could operate, or put animals to sleep, so I got over that whole thing. I realize that all I really wanted to do was to HELP animals, and although it isn't my CAREER, with all of the foster/rescue work I do and being the adoption/foster care facilitator for ca-R-ma, I'm fullfilling that dream.

Career wise, I am an asset coordinator for Xerox, managing a database for major accounts.

My friend and I were going to own a horse farm in Kentucky and raise thoroughbred horses.

Our world revolved around horses.

I wanted to be a teacher. I used to have a blackboard hung in my bedroom and would play with all kinds of junk paper and make believe I had a classroom of kids who I was teaching. I spent a lot of time doing that daily
I did not become a teacher but a data entry operator all my life. Unfortunately teachers today are still underpaid and now have to worry about kids bringing guns to school, it's really scary.

As a kid I wanted to be a professional musican/music teacher.

Today I am! The only thing that changed was I was going to be a concert painist but then I took up the flute in middle school and fell madly in love with it and went professional on the flute instead. But I still play and teach paino.

I did get my bachelors in Journalism so I could get a job if the music career didn't pan out. PLUS I loved to write as a kid and throughout school I began to love it even more. So I got my degree in Journalism while continuing my music studies. Then I got my masters in education. So it is all balanced now.

I wanted to be a vet bad from about 4-10. Then at 10 I started working on cars with my dad and wanted to be a mechanic. I did that for awhile. Then in 2008ish I decided to change my major at the tech college to get an Associates of Science to transfer to get a Bachelors in Chemistry. I enjoy my job that much and find it interesting. Still would love to be a vet, too, but I dont have that kind of money to go to school for it and would be bawling my eyes out when I had to put an animal to sleep.

A marine biologist and an author.

I at least am still writing but I am not really great with science or maths... so that limits my scientific dreams. But who knows what the future may bring?

I now work at a bookstore and Wendy's. Wendy's really helps with my adhd because I get to multitask all the time and the bookstore, well I am an avid reader since the age of 3 and it is a dream job. Just not dream pay or dream hours.

Well I guess it's not surprising that most of us at some point wanted to be a vet! That was my youngest career choice, but once I realized how much I loved art and had a talent, I dove head first into art school! I'm still working on making a full time career out of it

As long as I can remember I wanted to be a nurse and a Mom. When I flunked Biology I didn't have the credits for nursing. I am a Mom
so I guess one out of 2 isn't too bad.

I always wanted to be an animal behaviorist (specializing in cats, of course). I wanted to understand everything about them. I wasn't able to go to college and get that degree, but I think I've been able to fulfill my dream--one cat at a time
and every cat i've ever had has been my teachers. GREAT QUESTION--THANKS

Another Vet wannabe here.

When I was a kid I thought being a vet meant being around and playing with cats and dogs all day.

When I found out what vets really did I changed my mind.

I wanted to be a teacher, a police officer, a marine biologist..etc...
I had big dreams!

Now I am an insurance adjuster

I would still love to work with marine animals. For some reason, they fascinate me.

I've always wanted to be in the medical field...even as a little child. I think I wanted to be an Ophthalmologist since my first pair of glasses. My interest waxed and waned over a multitude of specialties (Physical Therapy, Radiology and Surgery, to name a few.)

I went to the local community college right out of high school, and got an Associates Degree in Applied Science, Surgical Technology. After a couple of years, I became a Surgical First Assistant. About 10 years ago, I finished my BSN. I'm still working in the Operating Room, after 25 years. I love my work, it's very fulfilling and personally rewarding, and I have a great sense of autonomy that isn't as readily available in most nursing environments. I couldn't imagine doing anything else.

I guess you'd say that I stayed pretty true to my dream. If there were 'do-overs', I'd probably have become a Physican's Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, or CRNA (Nurse Anesthetist.)
