Ok, so he's afraid of the carrier....in other ways he's very smart! We have a routine every morning and night when they all get their treats where I toss his and Darko's treats way across the room and down the hallway (mainly so Darko can get some exercise, since he's a tad overweight), and Stinkpot gets so excited, he just loves this activity
. Everytime I say "treats?" he starts "chattering" at me like when he sees birds outside. It's so cute. Anyway, they each get FOUR treats, and they know exactly which direction I will throw them (so that Darko has to run the most), and then I will say "that's it", and hold out my hands to show Stinkpot they are empty. He will tap my hands with his paws just to make sure. That's the routine.

Well...yesterday after the above routine, he ran into the back of the house and got a piece of kibble from his bowl and brought it to me and dropped it at my feet! I threw it for him to fetch, and he brought it back and dropped it again for me to throw again!! That second time he ate it, but isn't that just too smart? (I think so
)

Stinkpot does certainly sound like he's a smart boy! And, it also sounds as though he enjoys that activity with you so much that he wants to prolong it. I so wish my kitties would learn to fetch! I had a kitty in my past who would fetch and it was such a hoot -- and, while I wouldn't trade my crew for the world, I do miss playing fetch.

I play a similar game with a couple of my guys as well. It definitely helps my more lazy, food-oriented kitties get some exercise. It's made a tremendous difference with my one girl, Cass, and it definitely gives my little guy, Finn, a reason to play and pounce. He is, after all, still a kitten at 10 months! My other two females, Delaney and Em, don't care much for the game and so I just give them their treats with a scritch under their chin. But, Cassidy has lost weight through this activity (as well as some others) and I think Finnegan would be a lot heavier if he wasn't such an active kitten.

Maybe there's hope for my kits to get into fetching. They go wild for treats and toys alike, but, so far, they prefer me throwing their treats and them eating to playing with their food. Silly kitties! I guess not all cats can be as smart as your Stinkpot (who also happens to be quite the looker).
