Just wondering what others did to celebrate the freedom of our country today. We didn't have any special plans. We did go to church. The Pledge of Allegiance to the United States, the Pledge to the Christian Flag were said. Then some patriotic songs, including the National Anthem were sung. Last night I sat on my back porch and watched fireworks displays around the neighborhood.

We often take our hot rod and have it in the local parade. Didn't do it this year; it looked like rain.

Tonight we are going to see the fireworks put on by the next town over, which is always a good show.

I planned on re-watching "1776," but we didn't get to it.

Work was pretty hectic this week so I'm just going to enjoy a quiet day/night at home. I did clean the fish tanks and take one down. Tomorrow I'm going to go see one of my Goddaughters, who I haven't seen in 5-6 years.

We went out to Brunch this morning, then visited Mom and brought her Brunch, and took her outside for awhile, then we worked on the Dining Room in our house for about an hour, then we drove to Holden Beach and looked at the ocean and had supper with some cousins that are vacationing there.

I watched the big Fourth of July celebration at the White House. It was broadcast on public tv. They had some great guest, Gladys Knight, Darius Rucker, Reba McIntyre. They also had military bands doing music. In the background were the beautiful fireworks. Great celebration, Washington.

I did my big 4th celebration with my SIL and niece yesterday... We went to a local park that had face painting, bouncy castles, food booths, etc. I bought my niece a freakin' $4 shaved ice treat!!! Then we waited in line at least 4 times for the bouncy castle. By around 6:30, Sally (my niece) was about spent, so we grabbed some pizza and went back to my SIL's for dinner.

Once it got dark and we started hearing all the fireworks, we decided to pack Sally up and see if we could find a good spot to watch. She was a trooper for a while, but when she started saying "home... home... home" we decided it wasn't worth it.

Tonight I'm just chilling out, posting crap on the internet...

I have spent the past 5 days driving Marines to the airport and the beach. It was fun, they all seemed very excited over it being the 4th. Camp Lejeune is hosting some sailors from the British Royal Navy, and the American Marines wanted to show them a good time for our Independence Day. They were loads of fun to drive and hang out with. They seemed to really enjoy themselves.
Last night we went for a motorcycle ride to a friend's house for a little while for a pig picking and fireworks. We were going to try to see the ones on Camp Lejeune, it was too crowded and the line to get a visitor's pass for a personal vehicle was about a mile long.

We spent Sat. night at our daughters, staying with the grandson while they went out to dinner and some time to themselves. They made us breakfast in the am (Brighton rises early and makes sure everyone else gets up, too.
)
We played with the baby and watched videos of him. Then we left in the afternoon to go to a Rodeo. We didn't go anywhere to watch fireworks...we usually don't stay up that late. Today we laid around and watched movies, just being lazy, it was nice!

We went to NYC to see the fireworks. I have a friend who has an apartment overlooking the river. The barges were lined up right outside his window and we saw the ENTIRE display at eyelevel with the fireworks without having to worry about the crowds. It was awesome. Before we watched the fireworks we headed down the street for some great burgers and cocktails. IT was a great time!

I celebrated my "freedom" by getting a ticket for not wearing a seat belt, as a gentleman on a motorbike rode by, sans helmet and without concern for such.

My country, 'tis of thee...

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Called my parents, and discussed what rights we still have and those we don't.

Watched The Patriot and then Independence Day. Stayed inside because it was too hot, and Gary doesn't do well in the heat.

I was born at Camp LeJeune (Daddy always called me his little Rebel)! My Dad was in the Marines. We left when I was around 2 years old or so, but my parents took me back to see where I was born and what it was like....I think I was probably around 13 or so. Obviously, I don't remember too much about it, since that was a long, long time ago. But a couple of years ago, my DS was in the area there and he got on the base to drive around to see where his mom was born. He had to show ID, but they did let him in.

Anyway, we had picnics. Pizza on the grill on Saturday with my sister and BIL, followed by fireworks in their community. Then DH made his famous (well, famous in our family, that is) hamburgers. We had grilled wings (I made them with tequila; we were out of bourbon, so I experimented a bit....Big yum!), potato salad, bean salad, and a frozen peanut butter pie for dessert. My sister and BIL came over to our house and then we went to the Penn State University campus for their fireworks. It was fun.

We carved a watermelon (cat face, of course) and put a sparkler in the back end for the tail.

Did you take pictures? I have to say, I have never seen a carved watermelon.
