what breed is my cat (pic inside) - Page 2

I don't know what to tell you either. Its not a Persian. And it it odd that 3 vets would say it is. Can you print out this thread (since its from a cat site and a breeder's forum) and show them what we've said.

There are pictures of Persians that breeders have posted in here for proof. Do you think that would help? I don't see how they can say that considering you do not have registration papers on the cat. Most vets will write down in their records what you tell them the cat is.

Aren't there some places in the world where any longhaired cat is called Persian??? I thought I read that.....

So maybe that is what is happening here. If having the cat typed as Persian is causing you issues, I would definitely do what the OPs here have suggested and take "evidence" of a purebred Persian to the vet and say this is not the same type of cat. Pls change. Heck - you are the paying customer!

how old is he? And why was he named pixel?
Pixel is an old lady she'll be 13 in september. she was named after the [orange] cat in Robert Heinlein's book The Cat Who Walks Through Walls. adopted in 1997 @ the age of 7 weeks along w/her littermate, a blue cat i named Mouse [to go w/Pixel]. this started a trend, & all subsequent cats have computer-related names - Cable, Java, Chip, Firefox... next one will most likely be Data [good for either gender] but that won't be happening for at least a year.

Looks like the reason those breeds are on the list is because of the flatter faces and more breathing problems. But I know that people show Persians and those other breeds and fly with them.
I googled it and apparently the reason is the snub noses. I found a post by someone very upset that her Burmese wouldn't be alllowed to enter the UAE.

Not just a breeder but a judge--someone who has studied the various cat breeds, was trained in evaluating them, and is now paid by cat owners and breeders to evaluate how well their cats conform to their written breed standards. No vet will know cat breeds better than this person (unless that vet is also a judge!)

Personally, if the vets in your area are dead-set on identifying your boy as a particular breed, I'd find a new vet and tell them he is any one of the many other longhair breeds in this world. If he can't fly as a Persian, then let him fly as a Maine Coon. Or a Norwegian Forest Cat. Or a Siberian. He doesn't look like any, but at least as one he can still travel with you!

I can't see a Persian in him no matter how I try. Even my British Short- and Longhairs and Scottish Fold (pics next to my name and in my sig) have shorter noses than your cat. I can't imagine how anyone could mistake your cat to a Persian.
He's a cute domestic longhair!

I think he could qualify as a Domestic Medium Hair as well. My cat's hair is about as long as your kitty's hair...and my Vet says he's a DMH.
Some of my cats whisker's are about 6 inches long as well.
My dearly departed Wayne was also considered a DMH, by a different Vet.

He is surely not a Persian. As people have said, perhaps that's just a name, not a breed, to that Vet.

An example of a vet who doesn't know their breeds...

In NZ we have in cage vetting at our cat shows and the vets come along and look through the wires and do a quick assessment on the health of each cat. I was watching and waiting for my two to be vetted - the vet did the Persians, then the Exotics and then came up to the Birmans and said "Oh look we're up to the Siamese"

Sometimes I want to be violent to vets who do not understand breeds of cat, but then I just sit back and think well I know a lot more.
