LifeLock CEO Todd Davis victimized by identity theft - more than once

As many of you know, LifeLock is an anti-identity theft company here in America. The CEO appears in tv commercials in front of 9 massive digits on the street. Those digits are his own Social Security Number. He does this to say he's not scared of identity thieves because LifeLock is supposedly superb at what it does. Well, I just found this:

Quote:
In March 2010 LifeLock was fined $12 million by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), "to settle charges that the company used false claims to promote its identity theft protection services, which it widely advertised by displaying the CEO’s Social Security number on the side of a truck." FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz, referring to the LifeLock TV ad showing the truck, said that "the protection they provided left such a large hole … that you could drive that truck through it.” LifeLock will pay $12 million to settle charges by the FTC and 35 states that the company's Identity Theft Prevention and Data Security claims were false.

In May 2010 the Phoenix New Times reported that LifeLock CEO Todd Davis has been a victim of identity theft at least 13 times since 2007, which is 12 more times than has previously been known.

I was thinking of buying their services because of the guarantees they offer --but now I'm not sure.

according to a new class-action lawsuit filed last week in Jackson County, LifeLock's identity theft protection services were so inept that Davis' personal information was stolen repeatedly.
also:
Quote:
"In Wisconsin, a woman's debit card was stolen, and that thief used that card to sign up for LifeLock," [said Davis Paris (a lawyer)]. "If you can't provide the basic information to verify someone for subscription purposes, how can you be relied upon to protect people's identities?"

Don't do it - they will mess up your credit. From what I've heard Lifelock puts an alert on your number with the credit card companies even if you are not victimized - and then you wind up can't using your card without a lot of hassle.

My husband did a lot of research with identity theft and he found out another little known fact..........the CEO actually is using his father's number - not his own; he stole his father's number!
