My little Dharma entered, and changed, my life on July 1, 2006. It's hard to believe it's been four years already, but I'm so glad she laid her spell on me that day at Petsmart.

And thank all of you for your advice and counsel as I began my pet parent life.

That was the name they gave her at the shelter. She was picked up as a stray - my vet guessed she was about 3 to 3 1/2 years old - and she must have belonged to someone because she was front declawed and spayed when picked up. I can only imagine how scared she must have been - to this day, even when she ventures out into the front hallway of my condo building, she wants back into the house right away.

This shelter partnered with Petsmart at the time, and no one picked her for several months...I really don't know why. She's solid blue (grey) with green eyes (not vibrant green though), and she's very friendly normally, although afraid of the vet. She's not a lap cat, though she is otherwise just the 'perfect kitty'.

Thanks you all for your good wishes.

Even though, by this hour, I'm a day late, I wanted to wish Dharma a Happy Gotcha Day! Just as she changed your life those years ago, it seems as though you changed hers. What a lucky kitty she was (and continues to be)!

Her story is so sad. Thank goodness it has a happy ending. I can't imagine how terrified she must have been having been out on the street -- and with no front claws at that! It always breaks my heart to hear about kitties that may have been dumped outdoors with no thought about what they would experience out of the safety from their homes. But, then again, who knows what horrors she may have experienced indoors. The whole situation just tugs at my heartstrings. How lucky she was to be picked up, brought to a shelter who was willing to find her a home (by partnering with PetSmart), and then finding you.

Just as an aside, the name Dharma means ultimate law of all things. I thought it was a unique and beautiful name and wanted to know the meaning. And, it's interesting to see how that meaning has played a part in her life -- both past and present. Happy Gotcha Day, Dharma (and her meowmy)! Today is a special day indeed!
