i was at pets at home yesterday getting the kid's food, and up round the section for cats was posters for a kitten appeal they are running out of kitten food and the barrel for where they were collecting seemed pretty empty so i got the kittens 2 big boxes of wet food pouches and a few packets of treats, when it came to paying the woman bagged everything up but blaine said it was for the kittens she couldnt thank us enough and had said the shelters were desperate

i just wish i could help more, hopefully when i move back out i will be able to

Awesome hun, good stuff!

Cat Rescue Maritimes had their first Walk For Cats last weekend and thankfully a LOT of people donated food for the feral kitties.
We have it all stored in our garage.

whenever i see the donation boxes/barrels in the shops i buy extra to put in....all my friends say us "you do realise they just empty it so people rebuy it all" makes me mad when they say it

im going back up to pets at home at the weekend get some more for them like i said to blaine 1pouch = 1meal for one kitten and i got 48 pouches for them, im going to check out which shelter its for coz they are alwzys going to need donations arent they so maybe i can take them some food and stuff each month

Awww, what difference does it make if they DO empty it to get more donations?!? There are ALWAYS going to be kitties in need and the more donations the better in my opinion.
You're awesome.

and thanks
if i can at least help a couple its better than not helping any

Easy way to check on that, just call the beneficiary shelter and ask if they are receiving the donations.

Good for you!
Maybe I should look into that the next time I buy food Holland turns her nose up at.
Right now, I give her "rejects" to my SIL for her cat, but my SIL can afford cat food, so I think you just gave me an idea!

I just wish I could do more or give more, but I can't afford it. I filled out an application to volunteer at the Denver Dumb Friends League (which is where I adopted Holland, btw) but I haven't taken it in yet. It sounds silly, but I am SO afraid to volunteer because I am going to want to take ALL the kitties home with me...

i know what you mean thats what has always put me off, but me and blaine have been thinking of fostering when we get our own place.....ive seen loads of ads in shop windows and in the papers for kittens so i can only imagine what the shelters are like so we want to help

As otto said, easy to check on .... but I agree, what a horrible thought!

What about looking to see if there's a TNR org you can volunteer with instead of a shelter? They're far more desperately in need of volunteers if there are any, and the temptation to adopt is far less!

Very good deed, good for you!

If I get random cat/dog food coupons in the mail or from the grocery store registers (it's never for anything I actually BUY
), sometimes I will use them to buy a bag of food and take it to the shelter. I also take them cans of flavors that Genever decides she hates all of a sudden.

I will have to check into that. My problem is that I think every cat is just gorgeous and I want to take them all home!!!!!
