coccidia and diarrhea

I have a 14-week old foster kitten that has chronic diarrhea. She was diagnosed and treated with Albon for 8 days for coccidia. Her poop started to get better, but I had her stool stested again to be sure. It came back negative.

Now, she is back to having horrible watery poop at least 5 times per day. She is also not always pooing in the litter box (yuk). Is it possible that she still has coccidia even though the stool sample tested negative?

I am now trying a 5 day treatment with Panacure.

What else can I do about the diarrhea??? How can I tell if she still has toccidia and how do you get rid of it for good?

Have them test again, more thoroughly, send it out to another lab if they have to. Ask them to check for everything including tritrichomonas foetus.

In the meantime you could help her GI out by using a probiotic such as bene-bac. With parasites, then tough meds for them, things get out of balance and that's rather tough for kittens to handle (kittens get diarrhea so easily anyways).

I hope that helps.

If the symptoms still exist after treatment then wait 2 weeks and get a diarrhea panel done similiar to Idexx labs Feline Diarrhea Panel–Comprehensive #2627. Testing too soon after treatment can cause false negative results. It very well could be TF.
