Jon Stewart blasts Obama

Jon Stewart has been a friend of the Left in his show for a long time. He was a HUGE opponent of Bush, sometimes warranted and sometimes not. It has been said that a lot of the younger generation gets a lot of their news from The Daily Show, especially if they are liberal. This guy is the antithesis of Fox News, and often uses Fox News as his foils.

This is a little shocking to see coming from him. Not Rush Limbaugh. Not Sean Hannity. Not Michelle Malkin. Jon Stewart. Really.

The thought that anyone gets their "news" from places like the Daily Show and Limbaugh is a bit beyond sad. More like pitiful. Is this the generation that saw the end of professional journalism?

The Daily Show has always presented itself as entertainment show. While Jon Stewart is on the left, he likes to show inconsistencies. He has made digs at the Obama White House though not as large as this one. If anything, Stewart is showing the liberals disappointment in Obama. He was suppose to clean up after Bush, but he is becoming more like him every day.

I'm not sure this is all that surprising; anyone that watches his show with any regularity knows that when push comes to shove, everyone is fair game with Stewart. The fact that he has appeared so "left-leaning" has more to do with the amount of politically comedic/absurd fodder available over the last few years.

Further demonstrating his "antithesis of Fox" standing, Stewart is always well-versed on the subjects he addresses and is likely one of the more cerebral "talking heads" in television. A show worth watching by both sides, if you know how to take a joke; or, more importantly, know one when you see/hear it.

Well...no.

He appears left because he IS left. He says so. Why not just believe him?

I'm sure you'd believe it if Limbaugh said HE was right, right?

Limbaugh always thinks he's right.

As does Jon Stewart. Funny how that works, isn't it?

It's that old "human nature" thing again mrblanche.

Nope, it was just a little joke. That's why I used the flail character.

No argument there.

Not here to start an argument. Lets just say I'm surprised he ever said such a thing, as even he knows that "left" and "right" are just inane terms of convenience, and because he's indeed referred to himself as an "independent" on more than one occasion.

Doesn't matter, really.

He is very much on the left and will defend those views. But he will criticize the left when they start getting into the doublespeak.

Apparently you don't realize that Jon Stewart has been a guest of Bill O'Reilly's multiple times. It certainly wasn't to wag his finger at Bill on how wrong he was on facts, but to debate issues that they had publicly disagreed on. Of course Jon got some jabs in at Fox News as a whole, but you could tell that there was mutual respect on both sides.

And yes, Jon Stewart did say that he was on the left. Straight out.

You must be talking about O'Reilly, who also says he is an independent, and in one of his first books, long before Obama was a blip on the horizon, said that his most despised politician was Nixon, and his most admired was Bobby Kennedy. Not very "Fox-ish," huh?

Probably John Kennedy, rather. Bobby never got elected.

No, it was Bobby. I meant to say "politician" not "President." I'll edit it.

Yeah, I realize that. I watch The Daily Show, well...daily.

As far as the anti-well-versed comment, I was more or less referring to programs such as those Fox airheads in the morning, and, say, Glenn Beck.

I'm not anti-Fox, since already people seem to be up in arms about this thread, for some reason. I love Shepard Smith.

I agree that sometimes Beck goes over the top, but for someone who never graduated college, he is remarkably well read and well versed on American History. His programs on the founding fathers on Fridays is quite interesting and educational. I've only found time to watch once or twice, but I am impressed with his knowledge. Before you write him off as a total kook, try watching his show on Fridays.
