If a skin cancer vaccine came out but it was engineered from the herpes virus, would you get it?

This is real. It's called OncoVEX GM-CSF which is a drug that is a combined oncolytic virus and vaccine.

Quote:
The oncolytic virus component is a special strain of herpes simplex type 1 (HSV-1) virus that has been reprogrammed to infect only cancer cells. So the OncoVEXGM-CSF virus is disabled in its ability to infect normal healthy cells.
Quote:
GM-CSF will be injected just under your skin (called a 'subcutaneous' injection).

Depends on the trials and other ingredients. A disabled simplex one virus isn't a worry. Most people already have herpes simplex one (yes, even you ) and two, what do you think vaccinations are? Your immune system learns to fight and build immunity to a virus because they inject you with it - whether that be a killed or live modified.

Yup, I would get it- I don't see why not??? I really like the idea of engineering a virus to go after cancer cells

I'm just excited about having a reasonable excuse this time as to how I "somehow" tested positive for Herpes. Again.

Yeah, just kidding about that.

Everyone in this thread has herpes. At least 1 and/or 3. I know I have 3 and likely 1, too, though I've never had any type 1 symptoms. 4 and 5 are extremely common, as well. Many get type 4 in their teens and know it by the name "mono".

But anytime you say herpes everyone thinks type 2. I'm willing to bet most people reading that story thought that at first.

I bet I don't strangewings. I have never had a cold sore, fever blister or whatever in my life.

Or chicken pox? Varicella zoster virus is HHV-3, and why once you get the virus you have it for life - like all herpes viruses.

Epstein-barr and cytomegalovirus, just turn up as bad "colds" that take a while to get over. They can reactivate later on. Babies get roseola, which is caused by a couple of herpes viruses.

ETA: I've never had any cold sores/fever blisters, either. But I bet I do have HHV-1 because a) DH shared cups when he was young, he could have it even though he's never had a cold sore. b) It wasn't until I was nearly four that I read and understood how many viruses were transmitted between people - Before that my mom would share drinks with me and I do believe I have seen her with a cold sore. You can't ignore that parents can spread herpes to their kids very easily because they simply don't think about it since they're not sick or do not know they have it.

At least that somewhat narrows down where I caught it.

I admit- Yes, I thought that. Type 2 I assume is gential. I won't Google that because of the automatic pictures In fact that's why I won't Google any of the types. If you'd like to post text here, feel free.

Google won't give you scary pictures if you look up the proper terms or the actual virus names. If you use scroogle you won't get pictures at all or google storing everything you searched.

To bring this back on topic. I really hope this does work. There's been talk for some time of using viruses to kill cancer. Hopefully, though, there's no serious side effects from it.

What's Scroogle? What's Google Storing?

LOL! scroogle is a scraper. You still use google's search algorithms but it scrapes out ads and any search data coming from your computer is only stored 48 hours on their server and never on google's. Google keeps your data for however long they want as they benefit from it.

One of the disease modifying drugs for MS, injected intramuscular daily (in the muscle rather than subcutaneous) is made from a certain kind of hamster ovaries or something like that. I was on it for ~6 months - daily.

Most of the treatments we get for various diseases are derived from things we really don't want to think about. Add this to the list.

But if it works that's really all that matters. It's a big deal now but give it a few years and no one will care what it's made from.

i was going to say i havent got any form of herpes then i remembered my biology days and remembered id had chicken pox d'oh lol

Skin cancer can deadly.

Herpes is more of an annoyance.

It's a no brainer. I'd take having Herpes over skin cancer any day.

Besides, many people have herpes and don't even know it because it can incubate for years without having a breakout. And when you do breakout you think it's "new" when in fact you could have had that virus in you already for 10 years. It's a sneaky little virus.

I'd rather have a funky rash every now and then, as opposed to skin cancer. Plus if they do it right you don't catch anything from it anyway.

Now if its NOT the hoo-hoo herpes then Id get the vaccine but if its the hoo-hoo herpes NO THANK YOU! I dont want any icky stuff on my hoo-hoo and nor do I want BF to have ickies.

Ive got the heebie jeebies just reading this thread...You guys are goofballs!!!

^ It wouldn't matter anyways. This is more like getting a standard vaccination with a live modified virus that can't replicate itself as the actual virus.

That really depends. Some people have died from type 1 due to very odd reactions to the virus. Instead of just getting the sores around the mouth, it attacks their organs. Others risk blindness from it.
Other types of herpes, that most think of as an annoyance, can be more serious. Epstein-Barr is linked to causing cancer and several auto-immune diseases (including MS).
