Masud - you feed the olive oil to her. even 1/2 teaspoon at her size a few times a week would help. I agree with others here that it looks like a flea problem.

And please do not use flea shampoo. As others have said, it is very dangerous for such a little baby, let alone an adult cat. No flea collar. Same reason. Or any other "over the counter" treatment.

She probably also has internal parasites. This would be a good bet. Have you actually taken her to one of the vets you mentioned? I would bet good money she has roundworms. Most kittens do.

Frontline or Advantage, are best. Revolution also treats roundworms, hookworms and ear mites. Drontal, Strongid T and I think Profender treat the ones in the intestines.

I don't know if you can get any of these things there.

Also it is good that you keep coming here to ask questions. Very good. No question is wrong, stupid or bad. You want to learn what is best for the cat.

It is so good you are coming on here and telling us about your lovely kitten.

There are many online pharmacies where you can order Frontline and worm medications (Panacur is good for young kittens). Just Google them and there are thousands round the world that deliver to your door.

Here is just one of many:

http://www.universalpetmeds.com/

Fleas and worms are so easy to get rid of but like others say, I would not use a shampoo. Most are not good at getting rid of fleas but Frontline, Advantage etc. are all very good products that get rid of parasites very quickly - and stop them coming back provided the cat is treated regularly in accordance with the instructions.

Hope this helps - oh, and more pics please

Hi all Thanks for helping me out
. Huuuurray I was very lucky to get FRONTLINE that was the only foreign flea medicine available in the vet store. I bougth it for around 9 US$
. I gave my cat a bath dried him up properly then administrator frontline as mentioned in the bottle. I also sprayed it in my finger and rubbed my finger in the inside of its ear.

I finally took a very close look at the tail when giving the bath, it appears to be actually something else. its actually black dots around 0.5mm at 2 to 3 mm apart. I think its flea bits. I hope frontline will show its result.

I will take it to the vet for its 2nd vactination shots this saturday. And ask him if he know the name for those dots.

I will add pictures when i go back home with the cat... hopefully soon.

Regards
Masud.

Bottle? You don't mean the flea spray called Frontline, do you? It's not what people are talking about here. The frontline spray is meant for dogs and spraying the home. Those who have used it on dogs around cats or in the home with cats have had the cats get very sick.
Several years ago my parents bought some to use on our dog and had a kitten at the time that did get sick from it.

The frontline we're talking about comes in a box like this and has 3-6 single dose vials that you use, one per month, to apply on the back of the neck. It's the same active ingredient as the spray but in a dose and concentration appropriate for a cat.

its is in vials a spray called Frontline the label says for dogs and cat. Check out this picture http://picasaweb.google.com/skmdmasud/Frontline100ml#

and info http://www.pickypets.com.au/shop/frontline-spray.html

its a 100ml vial(small bottle with nozel spray
) exactly like the picture. I bought 1 vial form the pet shop. The label had instruction on how to apply on long hair cat's and it will stay in cats for 6 weeks etc. so i guess its is for cats as well.

I hope its the correct product or else i will give the cat an instant bath. Please let me know ASAP.

I thnk this is what strange_wings was talking about. This is a spray bottle. The Frontline all of us were talking about is in a tiny vial with a top that snaps off. You part the fur on the cat's neck between the shoulder blades to get to the skin and apply the medicine directly.

This is what the vial looks like - picture is off the internet of a Frontline kit... the vial is maybe 1 1/2 inches. I don't use Frontline. I have used Advantage multi or Revolution (ear mites and worms). Tube size for a kitten would maybe be an inch in size top to bottom.

Giving her a bath? I don't know. How much of the spray did you use? Not sure that spray is safe for kittens given their size and weight.

HI,
I see, I checked the internet for both the product both contain what is called Fipronil. My kitten is near 5 months old. Acording to the body weigh I guess i did not overdose. The spray says its for cats (i think they mean adult cat). Well I have to take my chances because i dont want to use dog flea shampoo lol.

This product dosent have any side effects and overdosing up to 5 times according to them showed no symptom.

IMO its different in terms of applying

I've had Frontline Spray and it's for use on dogs AND cats although I much prefer the spot-on version - quicker, easier and less stressful to the cats (and saves my hands and arms getting shredded
) but then I am in the UK and the composition of Frontline may be different here to what it might be in other countries depending on what chemicals are allowed or banned in that particular country.

The frontline i bought was manufactured in Thailand. My cat is doing great so far. Although initially after few hours its coat became a bit sticky and wavey but after brushing its back to normal
. Itching and self biting has decreased a lot but still time to time she scratched her neck. My next target is to clean ear mites which she has in great number.

regards
Masud.

Good to hear, Masud. I think most people on here would say use Revolution for ear mites. Or Advantage Multi. Again - these medicines come in those tiny vials with the snap-off tops. I don't know if you can get them there. The other treatment is the generic ivermectin, but you really, really have to know how to use it. It can also cause serious problems.

I will check with my vet shop for this product. I also read that mineral oil can be used to treat ear mites but i guess it will take 30 days regular cleaning?

Mmmm.... most vets would tell you that is not the best way to do it. It is messy and time consuming. I had a house full of cats and tried it... mineral oil everywhere. They shake the heads and run around like they are crazy! They don't like it!!

One round of Revolution/Advantage Multi and the mites were GONE!!!!

Just try to avoid the pet shop remedies; ones where a presciption is needed work so much better, are tested for safety, etc.

Edited to add : also - if her ears are bothering her it may be more than mites. It could be an infection. Cats can get bacterial and yeast infections in their ears. That requires different medicine. Did the vet check her ears and tell you it is mites? They take stuff out of the ears and look at it under a microscope. That will tell you what it is.

When my friend first took the cat for its first vacination the vet gave a look and just told my friend to clean the wounds with DETTOL thats it. After I bought the cat i took my time and inspected her throughly. I used a torch light and looked into her ears and saw brown/black/maroon power like thing in the ear which are ear mites. Dont know if its bacterial infection.

In my next visit to the vet i will force them to check for bacerial infection in ear.

In this country you do things by force or by something commonly refered as Acceleration Fee lol
.

Masud.

Word of warning here.

DO NOT use another flea treatment after using Frontline (or any other product) as this could cause a serious chemical reaction.

Best to wait until six weeks is up then use the new product.

Ah, good point, Python. Didn't think of that. I just know that mineral oil is not the best way to go. And what Masud is describing could also be the result of infection... and there could be mites in her ears, too. More than one problem. Poor little baby. But at least Masud and his wife are determined to take good care of her!
Yay, Masud!!!!

I don't think Acarexx (ivermectin) is a flea treatment. I think it is actually a dewormer and is also used to treat mange - which of course is caused by... MITES. However, the other topicals mentioned here also kill fleas.

If your kitten is due the 2nd part of the vaccination, you must take her to get it done tomorrow

Hmmm. I don't know what that is. Lots of hair loss on her tail may have been from fleas. I just hope it is not ringworm. As I said, ringworm is a fungus that is contagious to humans. It can be easily treated with special fungal creams and pills.

Looks like the hair is growing back now, yes? I wouldn't tear or pull off anything. To me, the only time to pull or tear off something - GENTLY - is to open a wound to clean it. I did this when one of my cats got hurt on his ear - either from another cat's teeth or claws. The blood around it was all dried and hard. I soaked it with cotton wool (cotton balls) moistened with plain, warm water until the wound itself was visible. I cleaned it with Betadine and rinsed thoroughly (vet said this was ok) and then put Neosporin on it for a couple of days. It healed up on its own.

Keep an eye on it. Make sure the skin is normal underneath - not red and inflamed - and track it to make sure it is improving every day.

Thanks Addiebee
I will have to keep a close eye on that tail. Hope it will heal by itself.

Masud.
