We have a small garden in our backyard and today was the day that we decided to harvest the rest of our green beans because the plants are really starting to get stressed out from the extremely hot temps we've been having. We ended up with a mop bucket full of the green things. I brought them in and set them on the floor in the kitchen so that I could clear off the counter and get the colander out to start cleaning them. No sooner had I turned my back when the Hannah-girl had her nose in the bucket checking everything out. I shooed her away before she could nab anything and went on about my business.

Fast forward a few hours to when I come home from getting a haircut to find the husband fussing at Hannah for being up on the counter trying to nab a green bean from the colander.
She got down, again empty-pawed, and sulked away. A few minutes later, she found the bucket where DH was putting the ends and poked her nose in there. Again, the husband fussed at her and sent her away empty-pawed.

Thankfully, the Meowmy was home and knew that Hannah has a raw green bean fetish and she loves to play with the bean pods. So I tossed her a pod that was really too much past its prime for human consumption. She was so happy and had so much fun tossing it in the air, jumping at it, batting it around, and running around the house with it in her mouth. She ended up with 3 pods and played with them for at least 30 minutes. They're still on the floor, and she'll probably play with them again later this evening.

Sometimes it's the simple things that bring us all laughter and joy.

What a silly girl that Hannah is! And, such a joy as well! She looks quite pleased with herself in that pic and it's obvious that she is thrilled with her green beans. What a lucky girl to have a meowmy who knows how smitten she is with green beans and who has no problem "sharing."

Growing up, my family had a DSH cream tabby named Sandy. And, she was obsessed with green beans. She didn't mind if they were raw or cooked, but whenever we ate green beans, she had a fun night. She would play with them for hours and then nibble at them before deciding that it was time for her humans to clean up after her. She was not a nice kitty, but when I had green beans, I became her best friend. She loved them until the very end and I think I'll always remember her fondness of green beans.

Hannah's story made me smile tonight. Thank you for posting it.

You're welcome! I came in tonight from being out in the garden for about 45 mins. and found black-eyed pea hulls on the floor. Two of them. They were in the going to the compost container on the counter. Please note I said, "were". Each of them is about 8" long and she's not that tall!

Awwwww! Hey, whatever floats her boat as long as it is not toxic or dangerous, right?

Last summer I could hardly keep Wellington and Biscotte away from the green beans - they definitely thought I was gathering them just for cat toys. They were actually waiting for me on the table to put the basket down. I usually ended up giving them a couple to play with so I could top and tail the rest!

Great stories! I used to try to grow green beans every summer, but they always got eaten down long before they even got to putting out beans, so I gave up.

Maybe I'll buy some fresh and see what the gang here does. Ootay
always loved to eat them, I never thought of offering them as toys!

Awwwww......that's so sweet! She certainly does look content!

Larry likes grapes. They roll around really nicely. I'll have to get some fresh green beans and see what his reaction is.
