Muffin went to the dr. today for his feline leukemia shot. He has had several episodes of vomiting which is out of character for him The vet wants me to get a stool sample and take it in so he can check it for worms just to be sure.
Now Muffin is normally an outside cat and they do their business outside. I have had him on the screened porch all day with a litter box hoping to get a stool. I forgot to ask my vet how fresh would it need to be. I was planning to let him stay out there tonight and check the litter in the morning. Is three anyone here that knows how fresh it would have to be to be checked for worms.

My vet wants the poop for parasites to be no more than 24 hours old. In fact, my cat is going for a checkup tomorrow and I need to scoop some poop tonight.

Best of luck with your kitty.

Not sure if it applies, but my vet likes ours straight out of the fridge as well. Maybe call your vet, if possible, and ask?

My vet takes samples from inside their bottoms - not very comfortable for the kitty, but she says it is the freshest
- Call and ask, you might be wasting your time with the poop sample like I did last time I was in!

I still have not managed to get this for the vet. I am leaving him on the screened in porch during the day with a litter box. But apparently he is doing his job at night. The vet make have to get it like Carolina said, straight from the bottom.
