I am going to dropping off my resume and apply at a few places later this afternoon and going to a career fair at a real estate agency. But I am having issues with what to wear. I am in the process of moving so a lot of my clothes are not here yet (about 2 hours away) so I am trying to work with what I have. Option 1) I have a gray pencil skirt and white button up shirt but its long sleeve and once you factor in humidity levels its 107
so I am really not feeling that at the moment.
Option 2) I have a dark purple shirt that is kind of dressy/casual that I usually wear with a dark denim knee length skirt and brown wedge espadrilles but I dont know if that is dressy enough or businessy enough.
Option 3) turquoise flowy long skirt with a black tshirt
Option 4) Dark dressier jeans with a polo

I dont want to seem to casual incase someone wants to do a quick interview, but I dont want to look like I only have dress clothes for winter. Once I get to a company and can kind of scope out what people wear everyday I'm fine, its just this going in having no clue thing that gets me!

City or town? In smaller towns there will be more of an understandable shift to business casual. For example, I live in a rural area town. An expensive dress suit would be out of place.

Everything you listed is more business casual. But stay away from t-shits. If you could pair the grey skirt with a cooler shirt, that would probably look the nicest.

I wish I could use the gray skirt but unfortunately I dont have anything like that up here yet. I have a black business suit but dont really have shoes with it yet. I need to go back home and finish backing but I want to try to take care some of these resumes first. I thought I brought a pair of Khakis but I cant find them. Grr

I hate moving and packing/unpacking for that reason. I moved into this house in Oct. 2008 and I'm still missing a few items... I'm sure they're somewhere.

Like I said, it depends on where you're living and applying. More casual may be ok for apps and first interview. I'd just stay away from jeans, tees, and super bright colors - go for more conservative. But mind you, my dressing habits are sloppy casual and overly conservative dressy.

Its a medium sized down. One of the 3 biggest in TN but not that big. And most places I'm apply are more hip-urban type places (3 art studios 2 design studios and a few shops)
I also remembered I have a flowery aline skirt with a white dressy t

I'd think a nice t-shirt with whatever bottoms would be better than any denim. Even 'nice' jeans or jean skirt seems too casual to me. Then again, I have no fasion sense..
Good luck with getting out those resumes!!

gah slight problem with the resumes... the desktop has committed suicide... dont know whats going on with it but it wont turn on. guess I will have to wait and go to the library tomorrow to print some off. Oh well. Still going to the real estate career fair tonight and maybe one other place, but probably just going to deal with all of it tomorrow. I have an interview at noon for a nutritional supplement place but I am very iffy about it. Seems a little sketchy

sorry should have been more specific. The business suit is a dress and jacket combo rather than skirt or pant combo. I may wear it tomorrow though because I can take the jacket off when I'm not at the interviews

It won't turn on at all? If you want to try this it could problem shoot a bit as to what's wrong.
If you can, take the side off of the desktop - depending on the case you make need a phillips head screwdriver. Unplug everything first, of course.
Once you have the case open, unplug the power to your hard drive, cd/dvd rom drive, and if you have any cards (sound or video) unplug the power to them, too. Keep the side open and plug the power cord back in - do you see any lights what so ever on the motherboard?

No lights means either a) your power supply is fried or b) your motherboard is completely dead - though it's more likely to have some leds light up.

If it's the power supply, simply share what your computer specs are and how much you're willing to spend. I or another user could probably help you find a replacement.

Plus of this - if you're out of work and don't have a lot of money to spend right now this is your cheapest option. If you can use a computer, than you have the skills to replace a power supply. (actually, just about anyone could do that).

(Two reason I suggest you unplug all of that stuff inside. If either part is failing it can ruin your hard drive. And if it's just the PS sometimes they can fail and have problems providing the right amps out and won't turn on.)

As for the supplement place, that would probably be more casual. I thought the flowery skirt plus nice top option sounded good.

its the beau's computer and its custom built so I really dont want to touch anything! LOL! It was acting up before he left for China and now it will turn on and wont boot up. He is going to reformat it anyways when he comes home. If all else fails I can install the printer onto my laptop. And since I already have to be out early tomorrow I will just find a place to print it out and make a day of it!

All of our computers are custom built (I usually get saddle with doing all the work). That doesn't mean there's any exotic parts in there, so you'd be no more likely to harm anything than if you popped open a PC with HP or Dell on the side of it.

One thing you need to be aware of, if something is seriously failing in there, trying to boot it up with the hard drive connected could be messing up that hard drive more each time. So if you try to figure anything out, at the very least disconnect it so nothing bad happens to it till you know what's going on.

As long as you have a spare computer, you're good. That's mostly what I was concerned about.

Good luck on the job front!

thanks! I may need it! I'm really hoping something pans out this week!
I'm kinda doubtful about this nutritional place. He couldnt really tell me anything other than it was sales and I have a feeling its knocking on doors trying to sell people stuff which sorry not doing. Would rather go back to working at the sporting goods store!
And I would love to do real estate, but I dont know how good of a career option it is at the moment. But I'm hoping this career fair tonight will answer some of those questions! If nothing else I could do it to get myself through school!

If the store/company has an actual store, it would just be retail. There's a nutritional supplement/vitamin store here in town and that's all it is, a little shop. I can't imagine anyone buying supplements from someone going door to door... sounds weird.

Real estate depends on the area and what you would be selling. Modest homes under $125k (western Oklahoma) still sell fairly well out here. The big expensive ones just sit empty or go as rentals for a while. The agent that sold us our home is doing well enough for himself - he deals with a lot of homes in the $60-80k range, though.

I hope the fair turns out useful for you tonight.

It was kind of a waste of time. I mean it was nice getting to talk to someone and get to know a bit about the business, but I dont really have the money to drop on it right now which stinks cause I do feel like I would enjoy it!

Im not sure about the nutritional place. He wouldnt give me a company name which made me think twice and its an "Introductory brand new nothing like it before" kind of product. Who knows. I'll get up and go and if nothing else it will get my butt moving! LOL!

I was actually one of the dressier people there tonight and I wore a denim skirt since it was a fair type thing. And tomorrow I am wearing my damask pattern skirt and a dressy tshirt because they are calling for temps in the 100's again (they are also calling for tstorms tonight between 11pm and 11pm....huh... guess its gonna be a quick one...
) And most of the places I am going tomorrow involve a lot of walking to and from! But hopefully something will look up!
