...or at least Poppy does

Not long back from the vets and her eye ulcer is not healing up as well as he'd hoped. It hasn't got bigger, but it hasn't got smaller either.

He has changed the ointment and we have to put this in her eye every 2 hours today and tomorrow, then 4 times daily.

She has to go back on Friday morning with the possibility of having her 3rd eyelid stitched.

I have already spent well into 3 figures and the op will cost around £200 ($300) plus

The ointment she has now is Clinagel Vet (Gentamicin) so we're hoping this works but I have a feeling she's going to need surgery to heal this one.

A big worry because we have a very limited income but don't qualify for any benefits.

Oh no...I thought on the last visit to the Vet, it ws getting better. Well, here's hoping this new ointment will do the trick.

Get well soon, Poppy.

Is Poppy already taking l-lysine? If not, she should be. L-lysine is an amino acid supplement that controls herpes outbreaks, but it also boosts the immune system.

Ask your vet about starting Poppy on l-lysine. If you use the pure powder, most cats will eat it mixed right in their food. It just adds a bit of a salty taste.

So did I

There were two ulcers. The small one healed up very quickly but the bigger one is the one causing the concern. It is big and it looks horrible.

It was the speed they flared up that got me - and we didn't delay in getting Poppy to the vet and starting treatment.

Because it hasn't healed up as well as the vet hoped, we think it is a recurrence of the Herpes virus even though she's not been sneezing or anything like that and it is only the one eye that is affected. To start with we thought it may have been because she's been scratched but that would have healed quicker.

She's been on medication for 8 days now. I really, really hope this new cream works.

Has anyone had a cat who's had to have a 3rd eyelid flap done and if so, what was the outcome?

Not sure if we can get that in this country Otto, but I will ask. Many drugs and things that you can get over the counter in America, are only available on prescription here and sometimes not at all depending on which drugs etc., have been passed by our equivalent of the FDA.
