Hi,
I have a female cat who is about to give birth and a neutered male in the house. Do I need to worry for the safety of the young ones?

Assuming the male is well socialized I don't think you will have any trouble. My GF brought a 3 1/2 month old kitten home to her 4 1/2 YO neutered male this weekend and here's a glimpse of how that went

Hi Kyle,

Hope you're right. These will be newborns. My guy is a sweetheart but I was was worried they might be seen as prey.

My cat had 3 kittens 7 weeks ago. I have 3 nuetered males as well. All of my cats stayed away from the kittens for the first 2 weeks and then slowly started getting a little closer. By the time the kittens came out of the nest 2 of my males played mommy to the kittens (cleaning them, stimulating them to potty, and carrying them back to where they thought was the safest places). 1 male just ran from them. Now the kittens have plenty of uncles to play with. But that doesn't mean that your boy will do the same. I suggest that you just watch him to see how he is going to take to them. If he acts aggressive make sure he can't get to them. If he acts afraid of them then just let him slowly investigate them (at his own pase). If he's ready to jump in and be with them then let him if mama doesn't mind.

Hi cslenker,

Sounds reasonable, thanks.
