Why California is broke...

...and why the federal government is going broke too.

Subject: California vs. Arizona

California: Governor of California is jogging with his dog along a nature trail. A Coyote jumps out and attacks his dog.

1. Governor starts to intervene, reflects upon the movie "Bambi" and then realizes he should stop; the coyote is only doing what is natural.

2. He calls animal control. Animal control captures the coyote and spends $200 testing it for diseases and $500 upon relocating it.

3. He calls veterinarian. Vet collects dead dog and spends $200 testing it for diseases.

4. Governor goes to hospital and spends $3,500 getting checked for diseases from the coyote and on getting bite wound bandaged.

5. Running trail gets shut down for 6 months while wildlife services conduct a $100,000 survey to make sure the area is clear of dangerous animals.

6. Governor spends $50,000 of state funds implementing a "coyote awareness" program for residents of the area.

7. State legislature spends $2 million investigating how to better handle rabies and how to possibly eradicate the disease.

8. Governor's security agent is fired for not stopping the attack and for letting the Governor intervene.

9. Cost: $75,000 to train the new security agent.

10. PETA protests the coyote relocation and files a lawsuit against the state.

Arizona: Governor of Arizona is jogging with her dog along a nature trail. A Coyote jumps out and attacks the dog.

1. Governor shoots coyote and keeps jogging. Governor has spent $0.50 on a .45 ACP hollow point cartridge.

2. Buzzards eat the dead coyote.

And that's why California is broke.

I get the economic parable and all, but the only resounding image for me is that of a dead coyote.

At least change it to a rabid coyote. Then everyone wins.

I think the joke got updated.
Rick Perry actually did shoot a coyote that was threatening his labby. The dog wasn't harmed.

Good for him!

BTW I think the joke would work better if Jerry Brown were governor rather than Arnold Schwarzenegger but that's just my opinion.

Everyone in this state knows that Arnold is a Democrat in name only! And, unfortunately, Jerry Brown could have a second chance at ruining California. We must defeat him! Go MEG!

I'll take a rabid coyote over a politician any day of the week.

Yes, thank you for correcting me. My brain was asleep.

Yes but in Arizona w/o testing, you would not know if that coyote is rabid or not

California state government needs to do something different before the rest of us have to bail their sorry butts out for their ridiculous, run-away spending, entitlements and give-away programs to every Tom, Dick and Harry in the state. It has been an abysmal failure in Greece and a huge failure in California and New Jersey.

We need to just shoot the damn coyote! And we need to run our state like Texas runs theirs. I'm rooting for Meg. If she wins, it will be the first time we've had someone with real executive experience in.....I don't even know when? Maybe never.
