Hello everyone,

This morning I was walking one of my dogs and I saw a kitten walk across the road, She is very young and it was around the same location that my dog found a kitten last year ( Kabuki) I am not sure if it was abandoned by it's mom, got lost or is just walking around. I have seen the parents around for years, They aren't feral but they aren't indoor cats either. We live in the country. The mom appears to be a torty like Kabuki and the dad is an orange tabby. I left the cat there because I wasn't sure if it was lost or just wandering. I guess my concern is,
do I just leave it, or do I get it. I am not sure if it will survive without human intervention? Here is Kabuki's story

thanks

Sigh..... do you know who owns the parents? Man they really need to be fixed or they will just keep making unwanted babies. It's the only way to break the cycle.

Some people would advocate that if these are free-roaming cats that you should just trap them and get them fixed. I don't know about that... I think I would if they were on my property.

The kitten's best chance of a good life is human intervention. She will likely get killed out there either by a car, a dog, a coyote, an owl, disease.... you get the picture.

Thank you for caring.

I second the above opinion. When you let your cat out to roam free, through traffic, then, well, IMO I would take the animal.

Sometimes there is a higher law.

It isn't the parents, I am concerned about the kitten. Last year I am sure Kabuki wasn't the only one in the litter yet I have never seen any other cat or kitten besides the parents. I don't want to go and take the kitten away but if it is abandoned, I will.

Back to my original statement - if it is that small and wandering around alone outside.... it is in danger. It may have been dumped. ... or it may be the only surviving offspring of the adult cats you keep seeing. THEY are the real problem long term if indeed they are unfixed and reproducing .... they will keep making kittens that you will feel obliged to rescue.

I agree. If someone is letting a little one run around, it is reckless endangerment. Do you have room for another one, or could you catch the baby and find a home for the little one?

I agree, I only see the mom and dad occasionally and they do belong to someone, although not very responsible owners. I tried to approach both of them but they always run off, I can't get closer than 20 ft. I see them usually around 5 in the morning when I walk my dogs. I will ask around to see if anyone knows who they are and if I find out, talk to the owners, as for the kitten, I just went back and she is no where in sight. There are woods one both sides of the road. When I found Kabuki she was meowing and sitting at the edge of the road in tall grass. I will keep going back to see if she has been abandoned. I don't know what else to do.

Some cats do not make good indoor cats. I have 2 females that go roaming out doors. They come in to eat and sleep. They have both been spayed and never had any kittens. Just because they are outside cats doesn't give anyone the right to take them. The kitten, it depends on if the mama has left it or not.

There is the possibility of traffic accidents due to someone trying to avoid a cat.

If I let my cats run, and knew they were in the road, I would be an irresponsible owner. I never want to be responsible for someone getting hurt or worse.

My cats don't go near the road much less on it. The 2 that roam play in the horse pasture on the other side of my back fence. The rest stay in my back yard playing and hunting bugs, lizards, frogs, squirrells, and birds. Most of them don't like the heat so they only stay out for 20 minutes (max) at a time during the day. So I let them go out in the evening when it's cooler outside.
