New cat behaving dominant

As some may know from other threads recently, I added 2 new cats to my furry family. I was told at the time that Buddy was very friendly (which turned out to be true) and Smokey was shy. Smokey has now turned out to be quite a brat! He's sitting in the middle of my bed, swatting if you try to move him and slapping his tail down. Buddy was trying to calm him down by holding his tail today. He wants attention when he wants it but gets mad if you give it to him without permission. I want to nip this now before I integrate them with the other cats. Any suggestions? I never had such a problem before. Is it a problem of missing his previous home?

Ignore him. Let him get attention on his terms, otherwise ignore him, you can stay in the room and even read out loud if you want but don't try to touch him unless invited. The easiest thing is just to ignore him when he doesn't want attention. Some cats are just like that, they only want attention when it's on their terms.

He seemed to be better last night. He still wants the middle of the bed, which drives me as mad as anything else. I am ignoring him if he doesn't seem to be receptive to attention and that has helped.

I agree about ignoring him and going at his pace. But to move him off your bed I would maybe try sliding your hands under the covers and moving him over by sliding your hands around him and just shifting him. Or just take the covers and lift them till he moves or rolls over to the other side. Does he have alternate places to sleep? Just in case he gets mad about the bed I want to make sure he has another place to lay down.

Yes - both cats came with their own carpets/pillows. Buddy (the other cat) has no problem sleeping at the bottom of the bed and not being in the way.
