Quiet but fascinating toys?

OUr dear cat is very clever. She likes everything we like: shoes, drawing materials, sweaters. Her most annoying hobby is stealing our pens and pencils and playing with them on our tile floor. THis is fine during the evening but it wakes us up at odd hours in the night because it is so noisy. Any toy suggestions to make or buy that might temper this?

Kitties will be kitties, and that's why we love them! I have a one bedroom apt. and hear every move Maia makes as well, sometimes she is trying to make noise to wake me up hoping I will feed her. I would definitely keep all pens and pencils out of reach, these can be dangerous. Some toys that are quite, are shoe laces, zip ties, little cat nip animals, but this doesn't mean she will be quite playing with them.

Do not use zip ties or shoelaces, they can be eaten and cause and obstruction unless they are attached to something and even then I'd be worried they'd bite off some and eat them anyways.

Cat nips toy and toy mice are great but cats are rarely quiet when playing. I hear the 'elephants' running up and down the halls chasing each other bouncing off the furniture. They are also loud when they play at times.

I should have been more specific, sneaker shoe laces, not cheapy short ones, and when I say zip ties, I do not mean twisty ties, I mean zip ties like the ones they use for street cuffing. These are completely safe....

Oh, ok, even though sneaker laces can still be consumed(I had a friend who spent $$$ getting old sneaker laces out of his cat.) Length is important though the cat ate his daughter's laces and obviously a child's laces are shorter.

Yeah a cat wouldn't be able to eat Flex-cuffs if they tried.

Straws, wads of paper, cloth mice.

I'm not sure if you eat meat, but my roomie loves deli meat. We often wad up that peice of paper that comes in deli meat for Lola -- she LOVES it. I'm not too keen on her playing with paper, but so far, it's been ok. She doesn't really eat it, just swats it around.

A toy my cats favor is the sponge balls. sometimes sold in sporty variations(soccer basket ball) or just the solid color. Quiet safe(no issues with any of my cats) And if they go in water no biggie as they dry out fast enough(I soak them when I get a new batch to let any color bleed out)
The mylar balls are a lil noisy but entertaining to watch

I know this is an old thread, but I remembered it upon a discovery with my kitties. They love straws -- you know those plastic ones you can buy for $1 for about 100 straws? They are quiet and once they chew up a decent portion of the straw you can cut it off and make it last longer.

The best ever.
