Cat uses bathroom on fiance's clothes

I just rescued a 9 month old male Snowshoe Siamese cat that I named Goose. He has not yet been neutered but he will be in the next week or two.

Lately, Goose has been using the bathroom on my fiance’s clothes. Mainly, the clothes he takes off after he works out at the gym. This has happened several times. He will climb in his laundry baskets or his gym bag and pee or poo all over the sweaty clothes. Usually, he is very good about using the litterbox.

About a year ago, I got a puppy and the puppy did the same thing on his clothes and someone told me it was to hide the scent of the Alpha in the house. I’m not sure if this logic applies to cats as well?

Has anyone ever heard of this? If so, will neutering take care of this problem?

If you have had 2 different animals do this I think it might be something in your fiancee's smell/sweat that attracts animals to go to the bathroom.

No animal would ever try to cover or hide the smell of the alpha, in a pack doing that would get you severely punished.

That is just weird, especially since there have been 2 animals that have done it. I'm not sure what to suggest other than keeping the gym bag closed and out of reach of the cat and try to put his hamper in an area inaccessible to the cat at least until he is neutered, not sure if that would do any good though, but once he is you can see if the behavior ceases.
