I woke up this morning, to the oddest thing I have ever experienced. Lennon, in the past, has licked my ear, for as long as I will let him, "grooming" me. Odd, but not that odd. Well, this morning I woke up to Ringo suckling on my ear. I don't know why he decided to do this, but he was purring as loud as could be, dead asleep...sucking on my ear. He is the biggest, and they are 3 months old, and have been weaned since they were 5 weeks. I have no idea why he suddenly felt the need to suck.

Has anyone else ever had a cat do something like this? Is it something kittens just do, or is it just that my kitten is weird?

Well I had a similar experience. My kitty who is 8 months old started suckling and kneading about a month ago and had never done it before. I did some research on it and all I could find is that it means your kitty is remembering when it was a kitten. He feels at peace and is experiencing ultimate contentment and happiness. I could not find out however, why he started doing it out of no where! I love it though, I think it is absolutely adorable, enjoy it!!
Hope this helped.

Glad to know he is not the only one! He did it better this morning then when he was tiny- they all seemed to chew the milk out before, lol. I'm glad he didn't chew my ear!

Might as well spill the beans... Neko suckles on herself!! Vet said she would grow out of but she still has not!! She use to do it ALL the time, during every nap! Now she only does it during bed time and just during her purr time. During this she kneads my arm/shoulder/whatevers close by. So i'd say your good

Just now, Ringo was laying on the bed, kneading and sucking on the comforter... I wonder if I just never noticed before, or if he has always done it! I would think the smaller kitties would do it too, but maybe Ringo is just an insecure softie in a big tough guy body!

I married the first time quite young (18). As soon as we moved into our house, we got a kitten. A lovely black and white (Tuxedo) cat we named Scampi. She was 8 weeks old and a real sweetheart.

It was the middle of summer and very hot and humid - too hot to wear PJs, so we slept butt naked. I awoke with a start.

No, Scampi, I'm not a mother cat

I'll leave the rest to your imagination

Ooh, her teeth were sharp!!!

I have a Tortie that sucks on a fleece blanket, neading, and purring the entire time. She was a kitten when she started this but she is now almost 2 years old. I also had a dog that would suck on a blanket. He took it everywhere with him. Lol

One of my GFs remembers her cat who used to suck on the tip of his tail. He lived to be quite an old kitty and she said she never saw him with a dry tail.

Mollipop used to suck on my neck when we first got her. She still does when she's really tired or if I wake her up and she's not done sleeping yet. I got some strange looks from my co-worker. I did explain that the marks were from my cat.....then I really got strange looks!

My vet calls them "kitty hickies". He just laughed at me.
