Sylvester has what appears to be a bite on his back that I think has turned into an abscess. I have a less than zero chance of catching him, he isn't part of my colony, and he only shows up when he feels like it so it's not like I know when he'll make another appearance.

I don't know who he got into it with, I know it wasn't one of mine, if he shows up and they are eating they leave until he is done then they go back to eating(not to mention none of mine have any injuries and if they got into it with him they most certainly would he's a lot bigger than they are.) As far as I know there aren't any females around here to go into heat(my 3 girls are spayed.) I'm not even sure he is a he, but considering how torn up he looks I'm assuming he is a male. The bite looks like the area where a male grabs a female to mate but that doesn't involve breaking the skin and it looks bad.

He won't let people anywhere near him, I'm positive he is food aggressive because if he is out there when I bring out the pan he hisses at me until I put the pan down, and as I said all of mine leave the bowl until he's done eating when he shows up. Otherwise he takes off if he sees us. He will stay close but he will not let anyone near him. I don't have access to a trap and as I said he only shows up when he feels like it so who knows if or when that will be. So even if I did have access to one I'd just end up catching my own repeatedly and considering how cage aggressive(out of sheer fear) Mama is I'd rather not subject her to getting caught in the trap repeatedly until I could possibly catch him. I don't want her to take off and never come back because she keeps ending up in a cage and I don't want her to decide she wants nothing to do with us. She's become special to us, well they are all special but she really is. If I thought she could make it as an inside cat I'd bring her inside in an instant.

I know I can't save them all but I'd like to be able to at least help him. This is why we don't name them until they come around regularly and let us interact with them. He just looked so much like Sylvester we couldn't not start calling him that.

Mitzi said she saw him hanging out in front of one of the big 'rich people' houses so I'm hoping one of them owns him and can get him treatment but if he's showing up here to eat I doubt even if they do own him that they care. Not to mention he seems to want to interact with people but he's too afraid. Chances are he was dumped here like all the other cats that just show up. Mama was dumped and all of my group are her children or grandchildren. She is a beautiful tortie Maine Coon Mix(there is no denying her heritage, she is obviously a Maine Coon, she might even be purebred.) Blue was dumped here. Last year's Tom(who I'm positive is now dead) was dumped. The calico was abandoned. The Siamese(who thankfully died after her 3rd litter of the year, it's sad that death was a good thing for her) that b**** owned was neglected to the point where she might as well have not had an owner. The Tom the year before(dead, he was run over by a car) was also dumped. No one around here anymore actually owns any cats they all show up when their owner dump them once they are done with them. Wonder if they would still do it if they knew chances are their cats will end up with leukemia and will die. They prolly would, but it just burns me up, at least have the decency to dump them at a shelter when you're done with them, getting put to sleep is better than living here. Now I have a sick one that I have no chance of being able to help. Even if it isn't abscessed it's a BAD bite.

Hypothetically....You could take a risk of him not being allergic to antibiotics and go grab a few fish ones from petsmart...just saying. If its getting worse and theres no way to trap and vet...
Look online and research dosages. Common off label use.

Best case would be to get hiim neutered and a antibiotic shot. But I know about the cant save them all-got 24 cats and 3 kittens in my house...
