I drank from a water bottle yesterday that had been sitting around for a while. I rinsed it out, and refilled it before I drank from it, but probably should have given it a thorough clean first. Ever since then, I've had "gastrointestinal upset" that's lasted about 24 hours. I've also had a crampy belly, just started having nausea.

Anyone know what would cause this? I immediately thought giardia because it's the only water thing I know, but it seems as though it has a 7 day incubation period.

It could be something else that made me sick, but I'm guessing the water bottle.

Sarah was the water bottle made out of plastic? i saw a documentary on tv the other week about plastic bottles and water and that they should only be used once and thrown away! i use mine for a week or until it starts to taste funny.
At work they have now supplied with every staff member with those tin bottles which are meant to be healthy and safe for you. They are doing this at every reasonably large clinics around Melbourne.

I have read that if the plastic bottle was in a heated area, to never use it.

I hope you feel better soon.

It's an actual sports type water bottle - it's the one the hospital gave me when I delivered Zoe. I'm starting to feel worse - I think it's because I ate dinner, and it's upsetting my GI tract.

Sarah, I think this is probably something you ate... I doubt it was from the water... You rinsed the bottle and drank fresh water from it - hum..... chances are that is not it at all... I do this all the time... IMO the wrong thing is being blamed here... What did you eat on the last 24 hours before yout sick, do you remember? Anything with mayonaise by any chance?

It may well have been something I ate, but DH and I have been eating pretty much the same thing since he's been off work. If it's food poisoning, it's usually short lived, whereas this is 24 hours now and definitely not getting better.

I've also been washing and sanitising my hands very regularly since I'm feeding and changing an infant regularly so have been pretty careful.

I also really don't want to pass anything onto Zoe...
