Strange Behavior

I went away over night and didn't want the cats upstairs over night. I lock the door so that they could go out but not come back in. I put the food dish downstairs where it normally is. I had it upstairs for a bout a week so that I could see that one cat that was sick was still eating. It's easier to observe and see who eats when and how much. Anyways, I left. I came back this morning to find Faith STILL upstairs. She had not gone out all night, and the food & water was downstairs. I then started checking to see if she had pooped or peed up here, and she did pee in the bathroom.

Saw me take the Food and Water out and down stairs. So why did she not go downstairs to eat or drink or even potty? She knows the litter boxes are down stairs. She has been using them normally. She's eating a drinking. I have her in a room downstairs for monitoring but she used the litter box there just fine. The vet says this is probably behavioral.

Anyone have any ideas?

It could be the other cats and that she likes being away from them more, or it could simply be that she prefers being upstairs and is more comfortable up there.

Either you'll have to make sure that she goes downstairs frequently or eventually add that extra box.

Do make sure to keep some water out upstairs. If normally she only goes downstairs to use the litter box she may not be drinking enough water and that can have consequences.

She being intimidated by your other cats? Do they chase her around or bother her?

Most cats love to venture out and have a roam around so I am guessing that the reason she did not leave, was fear.

You said you had the door locked so they could get out but not back in...Might it just have been that she was confused about how to get out the door? Was there a clear opening for her to see? Has she used this method to leave the room before this? If it was not fear, and there was no obvious opening and she's never used this method to leave the room, she might not have understood that she could get out.

She uses the cat door all the time. She knows how to get in and out.

My thought was that maybe she didn't realize I put the food down stairs and was waiting for someone to put the food back out since I take it up during the day and only feed them 3 times a day. She weighs around 18lbs so I've been trying to get her to loose some weight.

But in the room now she poops and pees in the litter box just fine.

She does get chased around by one of my male cats but a lot of the time she just sits there and growls at him.
