Hello,
I'm new and joined because I am looking for a recipe/s for a homemade cooked diet. Please, I am well aware of the benefits of a raw diet but believe a cooked diet is best for me and my cats. (I want to avoid any possibility of bacterial or parasitic infection of the cats and/or me.) Maybe it is because I am a registered nurse and educated in the medical model, but I don't care for alternative therapies or holistic medicine. I really do not wish to irritate any member who may choose to feed raw, use alternative therapies or practice holistic medicine.
Please accept me as an old, retired nurse who is looking for recipes developed by a veterinarian who specializes in cat nutrition. I ask because one of my three cats developed atopic dermatitis immediately after EVO changed its formula. My cat's first visit for his skin problems was last November and steroids have not cleared his skin. He was anesthetized (very fierce kitty while at the vet's) and skin biopsies and blood were obtained. Except for multiple allergies, he is healthy. Spectrum labs has identified several food allergies; of importance is an allergy to pumpkin, which was not in the old EVO recipe. He has several other allergies and the only kibble I can find that he can eat are two prescription diets-Hill's d/d and z/d. I have always free fed my cats and wish to continue doing this; so all three cats have to eat the hypoallergenic diet. They are all around seven years old. Thanks!

That's fine if that's what you feel is best for your cats, but I would not cook it very well done - just done enough. You could make any of the beef a medium rare rather then well done.

We feed ours raw beef (was feeding raw chicken, but now give them cooked chicken) in addition to the dry and canned foods each day.

I don't like my food well done. I steam all my veggies until they are only crisp cooked. If I have company I have to overcook them because my neighbor says I feed her raw veggies. I do believe feeding raw is the most natural food for our pets but I am not ready to deal with preparing and storing raw meat and bones in my kitchen. If I cook a chicken or a roast and feel it is necessary to first rinse the item, I dry with paper towels and then scrub the sink. I Clorox the cutting board.

Welcome to TheCatSite,

You have asked a very interesting question....
below is a link to a thread about homemade cooked meat recipes that might be of use to you. Check out Dawn of Sierra's posts. She has been cooking her own food, with good results, for quite some time.

I have one that is out of a vet written book and was okayed by my vet( my vet and the one who wrote the recipes both have a rare degree in companion animal nutrition)... Please PM me for it ... The only thing I ask and being a nurse I am sure you will understand
, PLEASE run it by Your cats vet prior to use....

Have you looked at Natural balance?

Please do not use Clorox even in small quantities and heavily diluted it can cause issues in cats

www.honestkitchen.com .... this is a they claim raw dehydrate diet ... you do not want raw but it is highly informative...

http://www.sojos.com/catfoodmix.html a aid to using a meat base for homemade
